For this, the 3-wheeler analogy would more accurately be a Reliant Robin... trikes handle atrociously, reverse trikes are considerably better but still can suffer from dynamic upsets as Henk notes. So, IMHO when track test prove otherwise, etc., etc. I'm curious how it WILL fare over curbs, not to mention the important consideration of how drivers locate a car on any plane by judging front track; with an ass that wide judging position on everything from cornering to overtaking will take serious adjustment. And that's if the concept works. Considering who's involved with this, complete fail would be hard to live down. And these guys don't normally fail.

TBH, in person the car looked like a publicity stunt IMO.

No real data was posted at the display about the car at it's debut showing at PLM this weekend.

It was sitting next to a transport hauler and a display case for some carbon fiber laminating company.

    Any pictures?

Of course, for the first time in years I've wanted to use the scanner, it doesn't work. Won't be getting anyone a copy of that article anytime soon. And its not to be found on their website. Sorry folks.

Sat morning after the morning warmup Ben Bowlby was on hand and did some talk on the car. Nothing really was new aside from the fact that Michelin will make bespoke tire for the car. Which is yet more important step towards this thing being more than a pipe dream. I guess their whole concept is based on their extreme rearward downforce and weight distribution that will allow the rear tire to do more of the braking work despite the weight transfer. His analogy was that was essentially how airplane(commercial air liner, and anything with a nose landing gear) and their wheel brake works, as an airliner's CG CG sits right on the main landing gear and that allows for those brake to exert the braking instead of just the nose gear, and also provide braking stability.

Still not sure on the turning portion, but at least thats one piece of the information that seems clearer now...

VERY interesting that the fronts are exceptionally narrow !

Surprised the front suspension isn't a leaning type, I expected it to be considering the narrow track and tires. Something, anything to make this layout plausible. So, some more hype vids from the principals and now Michelin's commited involvement... we need to see actual tests.

Evo Magazine reports that Ben Bowlby is looking into a torque vectoring transmission, the goal being to reduce tire wear and improve cornering.

    It corners

Admittedly not at race speeds or throttle application.

It was supposed to be at Sebring, not happening though... OTOH, 64 car field this year!

Man, I'd give up IRL for Cart (even if it's defunct) any day. At least they drove road courses.

What's the point if IRL is just a fancy version of NASCAR?

IRL drive road courses....and have been for a while...

The plan I thought was still to run demo lap at Sebring?

Speed TV has a good collection of the picture on this. Including bits on rear suspension and front suspension, and the skinny front tires...The rear suspension design is rather interesting, if not a bit overly complicated...

One thing I do wonder about the car. Say if it works out and it was pretty fast and delivering the laptime(Mulsanne's Corner suggest their goal is between P1 and P2 at Le Mans), what does it prove? Unlike the Indycar proposal which would've replaced an entire grid of car for a more or less "spec" series with no real defined performance expectation(faster than the old Dallara, which was about as fast as a P1 car on road courses, which means rather slow for a open wheel single seater), putting it in LMP(ish), without having to conform to the rule book of the series, does it prove that the tripod concept is better than a normal rectangular car? They are running at half the weight(half the power), with active diff(not allowed for other LMP), bespoke underbody aero(current LMP floor is speced), bespoke tires. Give the same freedom for a light weight LMP, rectangular car, can it do the same thing?

It's why it's running as #56. They are letting it show it's capabilities.
It would be nice to see half the weight/half the power/half the cost to race cars in as maybe we'd get mroe entries and less serious crashes/injuries.
    Assuming it works

I am just not sure that this is actually a good design, and that it is being promoted instead because of its unique looks and the cash of Mr. Panoz.

Also, is horrifically ugly. I do not want to see this thing taking off (pun intended).
