    Sarap 701

The Sarap 701 was produced by Societe Alsacienne pour la Recherche et l'Applycation des Polyesters. It was equipped with a 1,6 Renault engine with 110 hp, which enabled the 680 kg car to reach almost 200 km/h. Apparently only 5 of these cars were made, each to some extent unique.

It's not denial. I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

some details about the Berlinette SARAP 691

quite unexpected for me to read about this car in an US blog!
-Y eventualy build one of these around 1969/70,
it was sold by a little company ubicated in a small village close
to Rickwiller,in the Alsacian Vosges mountains.
The Societe Alsacienne pour la Recherche et lŽAplication des
Plastiques, was selling them partly build ,because of the tricky
bonding between the metalic frame and the polyester parts.
The look of the beast was quite stuning for the time, but it was
obviously heavily inspired by the Porsche Carrera 6 (906)short tail
who was a famous winner in the 2 liters category during this era.
The frame was made out of rectangular steel tubes ,and was suposed
to receive humbles Renault 8 front and back axels, but it was
staightfoward to mount any Renault engine (y score a R 16 TS,witch was
similar to the ones instaled in the Alpines 1600 S and Lotus Europa.
As most of the central-back engined kit-cars,y remember fiddlind
around during weeks to reach a reasonable handling (18șcamber
at the back and 10 front)
Y saw an other 691 drasticaly beefed-up,in Lyon in 71,with the roof,
,gull-wings doors and front sceen removed and looking kind of CanAm car
the owner did a great doble wishbone-balljoints job on both axles.
and it was powered by an healthy flat-6 Porsche...a dream!
ah..a funy detail y remember ..the windshield was actualy a..
back shield of a Panhard 24 ct.
well, now, y am 64, but y still turn head when a sleek low-runner
    zoom by...
hope y didŽnt bore you with my prehistoricals memories

time to go to bed --- ciao.

i consider this site to be completely international, with a focus on classic european cars... in which case this car makes a lot of sense
