    Simca 1200 S Coupe

    Simca 1200 S Coupe

The Simca 1000 was a boxy four door sedan with an all aft engine lay-out. When launched in 1961 it was seen as a competitor to the Renault Dauphine, but it looked more like the R8 which appeared in 1962.

Over time various engine sizes became available ranging from 800 cc, the original 944 cc to the 1294 cc that became the engine for the so-called Rallye versions.

In 1962 Simca presented a coupe version, designed and built by Bertone. The bodies were put on special train wagons, for final assembly in France. The car had four disc brakes but apart from that no changes were made to chassis or the engine. Nevertheless with 52 BHP the car could reach almost 160 kph. Just over 10,000 of this model were made.

In 1967 the much improved 1200S variant appeared, which had now 80 BHP on the tap coming from a 1204 cc engine. As a further improvement the single link swing axles were replaced by trailing arms with double links. Top speed was now more than 170 kph.

Production ended in 1971 and 14,741 cars were produced.

Welcome to UCP, Very nice car. Are those Gotti wheels original? They look fantastic.

Oh, I can see now that I should have inserted the pictures as thumbnails intead.

The wheels are actually Cromodora magnesium for Fiat, but I think they suite the car quite well. The 1200S had a special model of Cromodora as an option when new. They look a bit different but they are in the same "spirit".

ah, ok. I got confused from remembering a picture of an Alpine A110, with gotti wheels and the center painted red.
Are the wheels as shown in post 1 those that you are referring to?

have you managed to keep the rust out (and how?)

Yes, those are the wheels. They should also have a small hubcap.

Of course there is a little bit of rust in some places but the previous owner, who had the car for many years, had it sprayed underneath at least a couple of times. For a long time it has also mostly been staying inside. So basically it is quite sound even though it has not been restored.

Thats a nice car you got the MartB! What a beautiful color! Suits the lines of the car.
Nice to see another Scandinavian on these boards as well.
More detailed pictures of interior and engine would be highly appreciated!

any further plans with the car? For me it is one those cars that die out pretty fast before you realise that there only very few left.
