Last weekend I attended the Silverstone Classic - the 23rd time its been held - and the biggest motor racing festival in the world - this year there were 1,113 entries spanning 90 years of motor sport.
The event also celebrated some notable anniversaries -
On Saturday, there was a parade of 100 Aston Martins celebrating their centenary year. Aston Martin were the featured Celebration Marque for 2013.
Lamborghini also held a parade to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.
On Sunday there was a parade celebrating 50 years of the Porsche 911. Billed as 911 x 911's by Porsche GB, a new world record as set. There were a total of 1208 cars on the track blitzing the previous record set last year by Ferrari when they had 964 cars out on the 3.64 mile Silverstone track.
All variants were on show - I was out in my 911 Carrera - and at the head of the parade were some of the legends of Porsche's rich motorsport history - Derek Bell, Richard Attwood, John Fitzpatrick and David Piper. The event was witnessed by Mark Porsche, son of Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche - the designer of the 911.
Over the 2 days of racing, 90,000 fans attended the event and there was 80 owners and motor clubs displaying their vehicles.
As always, there was some exciting action on track with a lot of close competition. A new record was set by Nic Minassian driving a Silk Cut Jaguar XJR14....the last of the mighty "Big Cats" in Group C competition. Nic beat an ex Michael Schumacher / Mauro Baldi Sauber Mercedes C11 driven by Gareth Evans into second place. To see those fire spitting monsters battling again was awesome!
