From Porsche Museum visit July 2011

Having blagged my way in to closer access to the 906 I went back to get some hopefully better/more detailed pics to find the car had GONE. Was on it's way to a Porsche meeting in England where it will "run" ..... tempted to go watch/listen

Being hi-res pics, we could put Matra's in the Hideout.

The 909 Berg Spyder is a death machine on wheels, but hey, at least it looks good!

It wasn't really that. Sadly yes a death did happen in Germany caused by a stuck throttle.
BUT if you look back over that form of competition at the time that was almost expected at events run on roads through trees

If you are judging it based on looks/size/weight then compare what other hillclimb specials were like, in particular the true inventor of monocoque race chassis Tom Killen's K5

I swear from the thumbnails the Spyder looks like a bar of soap

The overall weight was chosen to be kept under 400lbs for the K5 and cost just under £800. This was back in 1962!

    Up close it's even smaller
You can see weight shaved in every part of it.
    Beautiful engineering !!

Google on Tom Killen and see how far ahead of the industry he was and how little recognition he ever received for it. He shared his ideas with Jaguar .... adn then they produced the D-type.
