well, throwing it high into the air and letting it go through a rapid deceleration due to an impending conrete surface works well. and once i used loping sheers (great big sheers used for cutting small braches and trees) and i cut a 1:24 merceds right in half. it was incredibly cool. it works even better with matchbox cars.

if its a diecast metal model....dent all the metal and then scrap the paint off, if it comes painted, then get it wet or better yet, put it in a bucket of water and let it rust, slash the ruber tires a bit put some dirt on the model and shoot the glass with a bb gun

i could think of alot more ideas, but i think thats would be enough

....why do you want a junker looking model?

Aside from just puttin the model in water, let it sit outside for a little while. Let it absorb the elements, and the decomp will look more natural. Everyone elses ideas would pretty well too.

EDIT: yay, 600th post

I learned how to make it look like it has rusted. I think maybe i should pound it with a hammer to make it look wrecked

nono.. plastic and hammer wouldn't work... i guess... you crack it if it is plastic, not like metal where it will be dent...

wait... try to glue a thin sheet of aluminium under the plastic (make sure they stick well) and bash it with a hammer... could work...

well if its platic you can get paint that looks like rust, or you can get something that is real rusty, spray the model with a thin layer of hair spray and scrap the rust of and on to the model

but your not going to be able to dent plastic...that just doesn't work very well

I am a model expert. Here are my answers.

Paint the exterior a flat colour. You should know that already.

Cracked windows can be accomplished with a craft pen (see picture) and drawing the pattern on the windows

Or, to be more barbarian, you could also crush the windows with a hammer and then glue the pieces back together

To accomplish a dirty, rusty look, here's what I did. I squirted out my model paint and took my brush and brushed glue on the parts I wanted for rust. Then I took some dry dirt (sand works too) and lightly sprinkled it on the car, so the sand/dirt stays on the glue. Don't put the glue on too heavy, or the section painted will stick out off the car. Be very light in this coat.

To bend the plastic parts, lightly heat the body barts you want bent over an open flame. Hold it over the flame for a few seconds, take it out, bend it SLIGHTLY, put it back in for a few seconds, bend it, repeat until desired effect is accomplished. Note-do this before you do anything else, including the body spray

Another tip-leave out pieces depending on the crash (if you want it to have had a crash). Like, (for example) if the car had a front impact, leave headlamps hanging from their sockets by attachimg them together with thin electrical wire. Shatter the grill with a hammer, only leave the edges on the car, as crashes usually destroy the grille. Bend the bumper, but don't break it, leave it kind of hanging from one part of the car. If your crash destroyed a window, don't leave it in, as windows on cars usually pop out if crashes reach them (especially side impact).

Well, that's al I can think of right now, tell me if you need more help.
BTW-it would also be helpful to know what Make/Model car you are using, and what year. Post a pic when you're done!

One word for the true rusted out beater look. Bondo. You can get it at any auto parts/supplies store.

Flat paints would work well, too.

Cutting off a fender would add a cool 'junkyard' feel.

Here's another suggestion-leave the hubcaps off the car, but not all of them Keep 2 or 3 on, and 1 or 2 off, making it look neglected.
