New York Auto Show round-up and other news ...

Hot on the heels of Auto Shanghai, the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) opened its doors yesterday. A large number of manufacturers lined up with an interesting mix of green and/or high performance models. Scion surprised with the FR-S Sports Coupe Concept. The compact rear wheel driven coupe is another interpretation of the highly anticipated sports car that is currently being developed by Subaru and Toyota. Like the Toyota FT-86 II shown earlier this year in Geneva, the FR-S looks ready to hit the roads.
Ford revealed a revised version of the highly acclaimed Taurus introduced a few years ago. The range will once again be topped by the SHO, powered by a 365 bhp V6 engine. Just like its predecessor the sophisticated machines comes standard with all wheel drive and a six-speed gearbox.
Over at the Chrysler Group, the SRT8 range was expanded with two new models, both using a 465 bhp V8. Jeep added its most powerful car yet; the Grand Cherokee SRT8, while Chrysler introduced the 300 SRT8 based on the second generation 300.
Meanwhile Bentley announced a limited production run of the Continental Supersports Convertible ISR. ISR is short of Ice Speed Record and is a reference to the record speed of 205.48 mph (330.695 km/h) clocked by rally Juha Kankkunen in a similar car on a frozen lake earlier this year. Among the revisions compared to the 'standard' version are tweaks to the engine that bring the power up to a neck-snapping 631 bhp.
Sister companies Opel and Vauxhall announced extra spicy versions of the already hot Corsa. Dubbed the OPC and VXR Nurburgring Editions respectively, the small pocket rockets feature a diminutive four cylinder engine that thanks to turbo still produces a commendable 210 bhp.

Would you consider it a sacrilege if it was available over here as the Thema 8.32?

    Yes.

This car only works as a big lump of american iron. Now if they put the Maserati V8 there instead...

If you have to be provocative, do it well.

On the other hand if this engine can fit in there, a V8 Maserati would probably spare quite some room. Waiting for some (proper) Italian-American to do the swap.

If it was to be really done, it would be a curious situation.

Like the american-italian hybrids of the 60's, only the other way round.

And terrible.. surely there'd be a torque deficit that way around.

It wouldn't result, on paper, that different from the "small" Maserati sedan I guess.
It won't be based on this car, afaik, but some components will obviously be shared, starting with the 8 speed transmission. It's autobox, but at least Maserati will completely avoid the DCT ballasts.

Not exactly, something like a 5-series.
Don't know what size they are aiming for with the next Qp though.

Will it actually be rear wheel drive?

And does this mean rear wheel drive will definitely make a return across the Fiat Group?

Where does that leave the 300/Thema?

    I used trolling!
    It was not very effective.

In all srs business, small Maserati could be brilliant.. here's hoping there's enough budget for that. If it could spawn an Alfa 169 in the process, all the better.
