    Magnaflow vs Flowmaster

First off, sorry if this has been done before, if so, just show me where and we can close this.

Other wise, I am going to upgrade the exhaust on my car [1987 Ford Thunderbird LX 3.8L V6] and I had always thought I would put a 40 series flowmaster on my car, but I took it to an exhaust shop and the guy recommended magnaflow hands down. I'm looking to increase my power, but I also want my car to sound good. I don't need a show-boating loud exhaust, just as long as it sounds really good. So what do you guys think as far as your experiences with the two?

[and if it matters I myself am doing a catback exhaust. Is $650 for installiation and parts for a magnaflow exhaust a good price or am i getting ripped?]

650 does seem quite a bit, i had 40 series flowmaster put on my 96 bronco with a 351 in it and i love the sound. I have it running catback with oval tips exiting behind each tire, that ran me only 500. so i would reccomend looking around and pricing out a few more places.

From what Ive read flowmaster doesnt flow that great, they just tune them for sound supposedly. Id go with magnaflow, or maybe hooker if they make a muffler that will fit your car.
BTW if you want better acceleration for cheap get a stall and chip for your slushbox.

I've heard V6's work better with magnaflows. I've never heard one tho. As for the flowmaster, I don't know if it it'd have the same tone as a V8 does. But I've been happy with my flowmaster so far, it's been on about a year.

Pick the one that sounds the best, you won't get a noticable power boost from any exhaust. Especially if you are leaving the cat in there.

i keep being told that flowmaster's sound great but suck at gaining HP, so i assume there has to be some truth in it

How can you choose the one that sounds the best...unless you install it?

Good idea. But what if you're the only one in the whole wide world with that car, what then?
