That could be why they're using a roll-caged car on road then ... they can't use it on the 'ring.

What do you think, how they drive to the ring? By train?

Also AMG isn't building so much prototypes, so if they use this car for high speed testing at the ring and/or other testtracks (Papenburg in north Germany, Oschersleben in east Germany or the ContiDrom in middle Germany) they also use the same car on the road for other tests.

Here is a picture of Papenburg from Google Earth (you can see, they rebuild the small Hockenheimring in it!)

I was under the distinct impression that they have a test centre at the 'ring like Jaguar and various other manufacturers have. Also mules are usually transported on sealed trailers when they are not being used to limit the amount of exposure they get. They don't put tape on them for nothing ... its to disguise the lines

They have a testcenter there (like Aston Martin/Jaguar/Ford, VW/Audi/Lamborghini and Porsche), but this seems to be a S65 and so they don't have to hide it, because it will be launched within the next few months anyway.

A few months is a long, long time. Take in mind that Aston V8 mules were turning up as soon as a week before they went on sale.
