went to racewars yesterday. nice event with lots and lots and especially lots of cars. some fun side activities such as drift demo's and terry grant's show.
But the essence of racewars is the dragstrip, for 10 euro's you could race down the straigth at zolder as much as you wanted. I only went 3 times because I like my car too much. 2 times aigainst a chipped tdi with around 140 hp.

    YouTube - gti FTW

    and 1 last go against a polo 6n 16v.
so I quit with 3 easy wins

Dare I say there are many 16s better than the 20 your talking about. Fine in a quiet cruiser but the engine aint no riot.

I am going for a comfortable car, which just has some go.
A standard 1.8t isn't anything spectacular , but I've seen and experienced a "non standard" 20vt with 307 whp, I kinda liked that.
I am not going for that kind of figures , but a little bit more would be nice.

And there may be better cars, but I am a VAG addict, only bmw could tempt me, I considered a 328i , but when you start to compare that to a 1.8t it DEFINATLEY looses in the real world , aka Belgium. paying taxes for a 1.8t or for a 328i is a huge difference and fuel consumption also makes the 1.8t a big winner. and I just need mk4 leather recaro's in my life and 4 doors

Ok, so you are maturing a little then, plus the tax benefit of turbocharging. I think the 1.8t suits an A4 quite well where there is a smooth power delivery and plenty low end torque for the weight/4wd. I just think in say a polo GTI for example a zingier revvy engine would suit better. As for fuel consumption, i dont know about a golf IV for example but in a 1560kg quattro A4 its very easy to get 22mpg in town, i think BMWs straight 6 is no worse.

thought about a b5 a4 , but all things considered , the mkIV wins overall. The straight 6 does use more fuel , but even if it didn't ,the taxes are killer, and insurance is way higher.
So probably the fatass mk4 for me.

Well I have little desire for a B5 A4, I got the B6 because so much improvements where made under the skin and niggles with the 1.8t where ironed out.

The mark IV golf aint bad, just a bit conservative. I dont think a car as common and understated should be modded externally and for performance, id definately say work on handling and brakes before increasing the power. To be fair you could be better with a leon cupra since its more sporting in perception (if technically 99% the same) and still VAG.

a leon cupra is more expensive. the golf is the cheapest way to go 1.8t
If I would up the power i would put some TT brakes on it, lowering is the first thing I will do though. As far as exterior and look is concerned, I think it has some potential. that's just difference in tastes I guess.

some pics that make me all dreamy:

    What's behind you is inconsequential.

If you can afford it I'd go for that.
