    Failed cars that shouldn't have

Alright I haven't posted for a long time, but I was leaving my house yesterday when I thought about what seems to be a good topic. What are some cars that you thought should have been a success, but instead were failures or were dropped from production due to low sales, reliability, exploding, ect.

I had that in mind when I was thinking of a car I could choose.

The NSX was never as popular as it should have been, and the same goes for the MG SV-R. That thing was ugly, outdated and expensive, but I doubt anything else had as much character and untapped potential.

I've opened this page to write the same.

I also don't know how the Vel Satis sales were going in Europe, but here I've seen it too rarely, and the car was really good as well.

Looking at the exterior I can certainly see the fail of the Avantime.

The Avantime was a european equivalent of a Personal Luxury Coupe from the US. And you know what - it's an instant classic because of the failure, one suggests. It's a miracle they sold ~10,000 of them at all.

Cars that failed that shouldn't have? Probably the Holden Camira for me. A car that had all the potential in the world, and the ability to modify the car landscape in Australia, let down by substandard quality and an unshakeable reputation thereafter.

Let's hope the new Cruze doesn't suffer the same fate.

    I thought Avantime too.

Failing that, what about every single Alfa Romeo from 1910?

    It was stupid.

That was the era when VW thought they could go upscale to Audi/BMW range just because it was the goal of the week.

This week it's to out sell Toyota.

The market just don't view VW as upmarket. Definitely not the US market.

Maybe Piech should have called it a Porsche...

I suggest all the recent luxury sedans/cars from France, Italy and Sweden. So Vel Satis, Avantime, 607, Thesis, 166, S80 (both), the 9-5 (in its first years that is).
The Skoda Superb also never sold as much as it should have, and I'm afraid the Seat Exeo will have a similar destiny.

    Oh, and the R-Klasse .
