New car: 2014 Mazda 6 Touring

Well guys, I've sold the 2007 350Z and got me a 2014 Mazda 6. Very different cars... but it was the right move for me right now, my daily commute of 60 miles was getting old with a sports car.

The Mazda 6 has a ton of features that are new to me since the 350Z was as plain as a modern car could be.

Now I've got leather seats, back up camera, blind spot "alarm" thing, dual AC thermostat control, bluetooth connectivity, a bunch of buttons on my steering wheel including cruise control, phone, and stereo functions, etc.

I bought the Touring package with the 19" wheels.

Car looks great and there are very few on the road, I haven't even seen one yet driving around.

While shopping around we went a bit crazy and ended up trading my wife's 2011 Sonata (already 50k miles) for a new Kia Optima

Forgot to mention... Yes, switched over to automatic, no point in owning this car as a manual. Also, I went with a lease on my wife's car. If we are ever close to or over the allowed mileage, she could drive my car if needed.

Nice! I heard the new 6 is a great car. Too bad we won't be getting the wagon here. But they might ship a turbodiesel model which would be interesting. Lookin' sharp!

The Optima's by all accounts a fine car too. But I have heard you need to make sure you find yourself a fine dealer for the ongoing servicing, apparently Kia's dealer QC isn't as good as some so the quality varies widely. Drove its Sonata twin when I was renting cars, it drove quite well and had beastly fuel economy.

Yep! Fuel economy is huge for us and these cars are rated at 38 and 35mpg hwy...

The Sonata, which is basically an Optima since they share chassis, engine, and a very similar weight, gave us fantastic mpg results.

I hope you get acquainted with the buttons as fast as possible. For those of us who drive simple cars modern interiors festooned with buttons and screens can be a bit intimidating at first!

As I said in the other thread, one of the best looking family saloon currently on sale.

I haven't seen any saloons on the road here, but estates are starting to be a common sight.

    Enjoy it!

(No manual is mistake though... )

How do they get away with calling it a 2014 when it's March 2013?

They always do that, they sell next year's car model.

    Nice purchase!

I feel like Korean cars have entered the phase of the Japanese in the late 80's- they're viable competitors now, not a laughingstock anymore.

Yup, the Koreans have come on strong. Anybody would be a fool for passing up Kia/Hyundai without at least a look these days.

I have been seriously tempted by this car for the last few months.

    It, do.

I am in with the Hiroshima crew now, and barring some nitpicky things, loves me our new 3.

Even the new 3, which is starting to be seen on the streets, look rather excellent.

Mazda seems to be on a roll lately.
