First the new 'Vette, and now the new Mustang!
A user on Supercars.net recently posted tons of press photos that were just released of the new Ford Mustang GT. Very retro.

i like the new mustang a lot, but i don't like how they didn't put any side vents on it like the mustang of old it's trying to portray.

the concept looked better and the fin looks out of place on that car...still solid rear axil??!!! i thought ford would realise that is old school and would move on to more conventional and better performing independent suspension.

perhaps its to cost cuts, they may yet show an independant rear on an SVT version

I have to agree, it is strange that they stuck with a solid rear axle, even though it is a 3 link set-up.
I believe the SVT will have the independant set-up as they have in the current model. |

thats always a possibility NoOne, and with ford having developed a RWD versino of the control blade IRS they could use that in it

I like it...
First off, the styling, it seems so far most people either love it or hate it. I think I'm starting to like it. I think it looks way better than the concept did, thank god they gave the GT those driving lights, it was just way too blocky and boring as a concept. The lights give it more personality, and that killer 68-69 look. I agree that the rear spoiler is a bit distastefull, it's just pointless really. The new engine is great though! Three valves per cylinder with variable valve timing technology from the new F-150's 5.4 block. Three hundred horse isn't bad at all for a GT!
As for the rear axle, I do think it was to cut costs, but also they say a solid rear axle is better for dragging and that was very important to a lot of customers. I guarantee the next Cobra will have IRS though, it would be senseless for it not to. I can't wait to see what the boys at SVT cook up with the new platform. Any guesses as to the next Cobra's output? I would think at least 400 hp...

i should rephrase this to ford having developed a RWD version of the control blade irs for large car applications. its used on the x-type jap which is all wheel drive, but ford australia took it one step further and developed a version for the falcon and territory (crossover SUV similar to the freestyle)

I'm really looking forward to seeing both of these cars on the road, especially the Vette. I was surprised when I first saw both cars' designs. The design is debatable (sp?). Now I'm going to infringe on Motor Trend's copyrights hehe:
Mustang: What's hot: 1) V-8 300 hp 2) It's a Mustang! What's Not: 1) Debatable styling 2) Needs a 6 speed Bottom Line: A revival of the awesome Mustang! (duh) C6 Vette: What's hot: 1) 400 horses!!!! 2) Finally may be enough to match the Viper What's not: 1) Headlights.....uggghhhhh 2) Needs a 5 or 6 speed auto Bottom Line: The new Vette is coming!!! SO there you have it-my strange opinions on the new American classics. It's strange to think a Mustang outran Vettes back in the '60's, with the 400+ cubic inch engines. I really hope the Mustang is given a GT500 version (my name!), with the original '67's 428ci engine, that would make my day. |

i think the best we can hope for in the new mustang is a 6.4L SVT version.
