Carlsson CM50 K - the CLS 500 in its most exciting form
(Based on the Mercedes-Benz CLS 500)
• Carlsson CM50 K based on the CLS 500 with 430 bhp / 650 Nm
• Exclusive Carlsson 1/16 Ultra Light forged wheels
• Complete aerodynamic range
Making its debut at the Essen Motor Show 2004: the Carlsson CM50 K. On the basis of the CLS 500, Carlsson's engineers have developed a fascinating automobile with a stunning performance.
Performance boosted to an impressive 430 bhp
After being 'breathed on' by Carlsson, the CM50 K puts no less than 430 bhp / 316 kW and 650 Nm at 2800-4000 rpm onto the tarmac. Distinguished by the elegant Carlsson look, the 4-door coupé accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 sec. (standard: 6.1 sec.) and continues on to a top speed of 293 km/h.
Integrated into the engine unit in a technically and visually optimum position between the cylinder banks, the supercharger system with its a highly-efficient intercooler has been developed in close cooperation with Ogura Clutch Co. Ltd. The advantages of this high-performance supercharger, which is built under licence from Wankel, include high efficiency (up to over 70 percent), low-wear, quiet running, great durability, immediate response and low weight.
Electronic lowering with Carlsson C-Tronic® SUSPENSION
For the CLS 500, Carlsson offers the electronic Carlsson C-Tronic® SUSPENSION system, which lowers the vehicle by approx. 30 mm. Lowering the centre of gravity, precisely matching all suspension components and combining them with the ultra-lightweight Carlsson forged wheels results in fascinating driving dynamics. The result for the driver: less aerodynamic drag, more responsive behaviour and, last but not least, a more sporting appearance for the CM50 K.
Ultra-light forged wheels in elegant 16-spoke design
An extraordinary automobile such as the CLS 500 should also stand on extraordinary wheels, i.e., exclusive and technically advanced wheels – such as Carlsson forged wheels, the only wheels of this kind in the Mercedes-Benz tuning sector. The extremely lightweight, '1/16' one-piece wheels from the 'Ultra Light' series can be seen at the Essen Motor Show 2004 in the dimensions 8.5 x 20“ (front axle, 255/30 ZR20 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx) and in 11 x 20“ (rear axle, 305/25 ZR20 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx).
In combination with the unique forging technology employed, the extremely complex manufacturing process results in a significant reduction in weight – conventional light alloy wheels of the same size are approximately 50 % heavier.
Apart from the technical benefits, the polished Carlsson 1/16 Ultra Light forged wheels are characterised by great elegance. The hand polished, high-gloss surface is finished with a coat of clear varnish and creates an interesting contrast to the brush-finished sides of the spokes. At the same time, the surface of this extraordinary wheel is particularly easy to clean.
Carlsson aerodynamics
To ensure optimum cooling of vital components, such as brakes and engine, even under extreme conditions, Carlsson decided to fit a grille insert. The enlarged, central air intake optimises the flow of air while openings to the side of the headlights also provide additional brake cooling. The Carlsson front-spoiler lip and rear spoiler are not only a visual high¬light but also reduce lift and guarantee improved handling and road holding. Rounding off the conversion of the CLS 500 is a rear-skirt lip with integrated tailpipe and an under-floor wing with a polished stainless-steel grille.
Stainless-steel rear silencers, each with twin oval tailpipes
Stainless-steel rear silencers underscore the sound of the powerful 8-cylinder engine. Optimised in comparison to the standard model, the Carlsson rear silencers not only offer an improvement in performance but are also characterised by first-class workmanship. Coupled with a sporting yet unobtrusive sound, the four-pipe system exhausts via flow-optimised twin oval tailpipes. Besides cutting the amount of dirt deposited, the double-wall design prevents the tailpipes from becoming discoloured by the heat of the exhaust gases.
The finest interior appointments
The Carlsson CM50 K is not just a visual treat from the outside. The interior design also fulfils the expectations aroused by the CK50 when approaching the car: high-grade Carlsson anthracite leather creates an ambience of refined elegance. The centre sections of the seats are made of Alcantara and quilted in a rhombus pattern. After the conversion work, wonderful black piano varnish replaces the standard trim and forms an interesting colour contrast to the leather upholstery. The ergonomic design of the Carlsson sports steering wheel and the Alcantara covering in the grip areas ensure that the driver wants to keep his or her hands on the wheel no matter how long the journey. Naturally, there are no limits on customer wishes when it comes to individual fittings and appointments for the car.
