a:level project car - "The Big"

    Torsion torque: 1180 nm
    Power: 836 hp
    Engine: V 12 6.7l Twin Turbo

Notwithstanding The Big has passed a runoff in Germany, there hasn’t occurred an opportunity to educe its real capabilities yet. That’s why Roland Asch was invited as a test pilot at the Nurburgring Grand Prix Track, blocked for several hours for the tests of the new A:Level’s car. On the September 2 and 3 the achieved technical data was officially recorded on the Nurburgring Grand Prix Track.
    Specifications of “The Big”:

Watching for the dogfights it seemed sometimes that the helicopter was trying to overtake not a car, but the impertinent black mustang that had a power of 836 horses. Leaving the airplane behind, cutting the space with a tremendous roar this monster is rushing the track. The world around you disappears. Sitting on the car and looking outside you are beginning to forget about the limits of time. The car and you are now a single whole. Every molecule of your body can feel the rhythm of 1180 Nm of the torsion torque and is enjoyed with this terrible power. But the iron grip of the experienced pilot stops the horse, makes you come to oneself and returns you to reality…
The more detailed results of the tests are presented in the PROJECTS section.
P.S. The car is now presented in so-called test condition with a black body and a base interior. It will be finishing and will presenting at the International Geneva Motor Show in 2004, where the official presentation of “The Big” will be taken place.

A:Level proudly presents THE BIG a new car in a class of its own built by a new team of car design engineers.

    BIG Intro
No sooner Volga V12 Coupe was described as almost the best car of the Paris Motor Show than the A:Level team unveiled its new hand-built project, an exclusive car whose name is every bit its performance.

The new model offers a perfectionist approach to design and construction. It is the work of A:Level Engineering, a new team of engineers whose goal is to develop cutting edge technologies.

    BIG image
Imagine a futuristic landscape. An old movie of a time when everything was “hand-made”, when there was no mass production or computer effects. A film like “Mad Max”, or something. A sunlit urbanistic desert: the sand, the metal and the dust. À car, as nice-looking as a tank, is gunning down the highway ripping off hot air and crossing a bridge at full speed. A brutal simplicity of design. No excess lines, just functionality. Is it a car for a superman or a stunt man? No special effects, just precision of design and manufacture.

    BIG Outside
The BIG’s design seems to convey the message: “This car is designed to fly over the highway like an iron disk. At 300 km/hour it is going to sweep away everything on its way.” It is no accident that the word “iron” is used here because a fundamentally new coating called “dim iron” has been specifically developed for the BIG. It is this paint job that gives the BIG a menace which is so very true of its aggressive behavior. This urbanistic color literally flows over the body panels, which represent pure functionality. The BIG’s body is made of carbon, an ultra lightweight material, which blends Formula 1 and aviation technologies. By the way, the BIG’s predecessor was not very stable at high speed and tended to take off the road surface. The BIG is not only bigger and heavier but also has a lot of downforce. But who is the predecessor? It is a production Mercedes.

    BIG Background
What is a Mercedes? This brand is usually associated with reliability, quality and prestige. The top-of-the line Mercedes Benz W 140 Coupe is not crammed with electronics and is very responsive which allowed A:Level Engineering team to use it as a starting point for a car which became known as the BIG. And prior to getting that name the BIG gave its owner many years of reliable service. Cars, however, are ageing and more rapidly than people…

    BIG Inside
Except for new racing-style seats and a gearshift mechanism the interior of the BIG has not radically changed. Traces of the donor car are barely visible and as elusive as shadows on the highway that disappear before we know it. The achievement of A:Level Engineering is a tweak-up version that offers enormous power due to a completely new racing turbocharged engine which has been specifically designed for this project. The BIG is equipped with a racing suspension of original design and a six-speed transaxle gearshift. The wind tunnel tests suggest that in terms of aerodynamics the BIG is likely to outperform many sports cars of famous families. Due to a finely tuned suspension and a clutch mechanism the BIG is suitable for every day use which only proves its compliance with a concept of exclusive cars.
