I want Aussie cars in America!
Aussies get all of the recycled American cars. Falcon, Fairlane, Fairmont, & LTD are all former Fords. Caprice is a former Chevy name. The Falcon Ute is a Ranchero and the Holden Ute is basically an El Camino.

The falcon is Aussie it's been built here for so long and the fairlane fairmont LTD etc. They arn't former fords they are fords but they have been designed and built here since Fryed chicken was in texas ![]() Caprice is a name but the car is very Australian as is the Fairlane they are ford and holdens long wheels base models and are very Much there own models. The holden ute a el camino LOL Way way off mate![]() All These Models are not recycled U.S cars. They are built designed and made only in Australia for around 30+ years These cars have a very strong history here and only here. ![]() P.S you have a Aussie car there allready... The Pontiac GTO

And as for names, What's in a name? it's a word only doesnt mean they are the same cause the names are
There is someone out there with my name but we are worlds apart from being the same![]() The Falcon is called falcon cause back a guzzillion years ago when the U.S had it we did to as a import car? Built here? (KOS will know 100% this one). but as time went on the yanks stoped making it. This is when Ford OZ took control of it and it's now very much there own. The Ford U.S flicked it but Ford OZ keeped it

Ford UK also has recycled US names. Galaxy (minivan) and Maverick (SUV) were formerly US Fords. I am not absolutely demanding them or Aussie Fords, I just thought it would be nice to have those names again.

But, Are you 100% sure they are names Ford.Us has used or they might be just FoMoCo names they have used all around the world? Remember Ford is ford in the U.S U.K Yoyangs so they really arn't a single country's name when your a global motor company.

I can't really understand the American fixation with badgewear, a la Pontiac GTO debacle. Yes, Oz cars have adopted many model names from overseas, like Commodore (Opel) Calais (Olds) Kingswood (Chev) Brougham (Cadillac) Statesman (Nash) etc, but usually the cars themselves are completely unrelated

The 1965 Ford Fairmont below was the 1st locally designed car to feaure standard disc brakes. THIS '65 Fairmont wagon is pictured outside our Prime Minister's official residence ![]() Fairmont V8s like these pictured below (a '66 & '72) formed the basis of the great Falcon GT |

We have had the Commodore as well, as a Hudson.
The Calais has also been used on Cadillac. You make a good point. Recycling names isn't all of it. One car could start a trend. For example, the Volkswagen leading to the Mini, 2CV & Cinqeciento. Last edited by Classic Anycar; 07-21-2005 at 06:33 PM. |

Holden on the other hand since starting as a coachbuilder and being taken over by GM have used US themes with Oz running gear, and recently switching to Opel bodypanels to reduce development costs.
