Future Indy USGP's still a question.

Quote:
(GMM) Indianapolis officials still have not decided if F1 will be invited back to the irritated 'Brickyard' next year.

Speedway president Joie Chitwood admitted that the memories of booing fans and flying beer bottles at the sight of the 2005 US grand prix have not yet abandoned him.

''We have to make sure having (it) is good for us,'' he told the St Petersburg Times newspaper, ''the city ... and the fans.

''We have to make the right decision for all involved,'' Joie said, ''and right now we're seeing if it's possible.''

The tricky thing for Indianapolis is the significant investment made at the venue for F1, not to mention a signed 2006 contract.

Chitwood added: ''We're not looking for it to be over yet.''

In Indy's favour, though, is the Speedway's commitment - and appeal - to the sport run by Bernie Ecclestone. The Speedway's president doesn't think a US GP would work elsewhere.

He added: ''I'm not sure a race in Las Vegas or wherever would really match up to what we have.''

Las Vegau - huh ??? WHY do owners in the US only think of STREET circuits as alternatives for F1 ?

Laguna please, after watching the MotoGP run there it confirms it's moving 'up' the formulae

Hopefully Laguna isnt held back by off track facilities etc, as it would provide much better racing than Indy or any street race..

With the proposed 20 event calender and still doubt over the US though, we might be up for another 2 new events

It used to be one of THE tracks in Formula 5000
Hosted CART too.

If they sort out the concrete wall along and Rahal and Corkscrew it will be fine and the sand coming onto the track for me just increases the need for driver skill like Zandvoort used to. Possibly with the new F1 rules it may not be as bad as it currently looks.

I'd rather have Laguna Seca than the Indy track anyday.

10 minutes from Lingenfelter's... aren't you jealous?
Would it be possible for them to run at Daytona? I've never seen a open wheel race there before though. I think Watkin's Glen or Sebring might be a good choice too, that is if they leave Indy.

Road America, but that would probably fall victim to F1's obsessive concern for safety which could even turn that track into something boring

i dont mind when a decent track is put in the middle of an oval (Rockingham or Eurospeedway), but US is al about gimicks so in the necesity to make tracks faster and bigger "spectacles" they take out the elements that make it racing and turned it into the favourite American pastime, cruising. The US cant see why F1 shouldn't fit in this mould like thier INDY series do, the hastily constructed middle sections of track aren't properly planned and street circuits are all just rubbish compared to Monaco, the US should make the best circuits with all that varied terrain, look at what Australia did to Bathurst, the view from the helicopters are incredible, you did well with Laguna Seca and Road America, they are great, yo have a choice, use it!

Every track you've named so far is in the middle of cow country. You wouldn't have the crowds that F1 expects, you wouldn't have off track attractions, you wouldn't have the safety required by F1. And I don't think Vegas wants to shut down anywhere for 2 weeks at a time. The only place currently that qualifies for all of these is Indy, or one of the NASCAR rovals that you all seem to hate so much.

Bahrain is about as far away from mainstream F1 fans as you can get

Funny how MotoGP which beats Formula One attendance records around the world , managed to "slum it" at Laguna for the first time this year !!

I think they should have the USA GP at the A1 ring.

Or have two races at Spa.
