Not sure about Australia but that sort of thing happened in the last census in the UK. There was a rumour going round that if a certain number of people put 'Jedi' in the religion box then the government would have to officially recognise it as a religion. Don't know exactly how many people did it but I know it was several thousand (including me! ). The same thing may have happened in Australia too.

The same did happen, but the government disallowed it. It certainly wasn't a huge response, but there was probably enough people doing it to have made it official if it didn't get so publicised and thence disallowed.

Somewhere in South America
I read somewere (a reliable source) about the Jedism thing.

Plenty of weird people on earth...

In Argentina people have actually started a "religion" that follows Diego Maradona (former soccer player, former(?) drug addict, now tv host). Their christmas is Maradona's date of birth.

Yep, same thing here. In fact my business partner was one of the main instigators in NSW & the ACT for that sacred Order, the Jedi Knights of the Oblong Table, was threatened with prosecution by authorities but rightly called their idiotic bluff - I mean, how could the Govt disprove someone's religious sincerity? The resultant publicity only furthered our noble cause

Further vital info on Jedi HERE

^^ Enjoy

First I've heard of it!

He's currently in the midst of a successful public comeback. He had stomach stapling surgery and has since lost about 5 stone, and he's now started his own light entertainment show on Argentine TV. Obviously it's MASSIVELY popular over there, but anything with Maradona on it is because, as Magracer says, Maradona is worshipped like a deity over there.

He went from this -

To that -

And back to this -

I was only 4 years old at the time but I still remember the furore that went on after that 'incident'!

I would retaliate and post some pics of Scotland getting cheated out of major tournaments, but you never qualify for them in the first place so I couldn't find any!

yuk-yuk-yuk indeed!

A number of people put Jedi on the Census form, but it was classified as "indeterinant" by the census board, of which they had a total of ~91 000 responses. This also would include any smudged form, any left blank, or any that had multiple boxes marked
