    Subaru SVX 1991-1996

    Subaru SVX

The Subaru Alcyone SVX, also known outside of its home market Japan as the Subaru SVX, is a two-door grand tourer coupé that was sold by Subaru, the automobile manufacturing division of Japanese transportation conglomerate Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI). Produced from 1991 to December 1996, it was FHI's first attempt to enter the luxury/performance car market. Its intention was to combine two seemingly contradictory elements—comfort and performance. The name "Alcyone" (pronounced "el-SIGH-uh-nee") refers to the brightest star in the Pleiades star cluster, on which the Subaru logo is based.

    What a Guigario masterpiece!

A friend's dad had one since the early 90's new and just recently had gotten rid of it for a G35 coupe. The transmission on the SVX had gone kaput and it would've cost more to fix than the car is worth.

I must say he has good taste in cars.

I do love the 1/2 windows in that thing... a hella sweet car... Matt almost bought one once, but due to the tranny and several other issues, opted for a Saturn (which has since burned...)

    Yeah, great choice that was...

From what I read, the SVX was notorious for an overheating transmission. When I was looking at it, I went on some forums and snooped around for problems and basically they all said that if you don't put a superduty aftermarket transmission oil cooler on the car, transmission failure is inevitable.
