Yes, its another 2nd Rate Gig Review - Bodyjar

Righto, its time for another 2nd rate gig review from 2ndclasscitizen. (I've actually been to a couple of shows since the first one (a few canberra bands and End of Fashion) but i've forgotten all of them so I'll just do the most recent one) On wednesday night, the ANU Bar hosted one of the greats of Aussie punk, Bodyjar. But first the supports. Bodyjar chose to have 2 local bands play support for them, Memorandom and Switch 3. Memorandom were up first. I actually know these guys as I went 2 school with two of them. They have been making big impressions on the Canberra punk scene and have had a few shows interstate. They put on a really strong set and those who had gotten there early were really getting into it. I took the camera along to take a few happy snaps and will post soon. Next up were Switch 3, who are a band I hadn't seen before. But I will definately be going to see them again. They were f'ing awesome. They played real strong punk, I got definte Strung Out influence from it but a really original and varied sound.

But then it was time for the Jar to come on. 10 seconds in, the crowd went nuts. It was a wild pit, but thats what you want. They played a few songs of their new self-titled album, with the crowd going fair mental at Lights Out. The boys also chucked out a few oldies, like Glossy Books, Not The Same, One in a Million, and after being shouted at to play after every song, Hazy Shade of Winter, which had every jumping around. Definately one of the coolest shows I've been to.

For punk band names, the Jam was like really thick man .. but the Jar sounds a bit transparent
