    Colani Ferrari Testa d'Oro 1989

1989. Front & Rear view of the Colani Ferrari Lotec Testa d'Oro. In 1991, with Mike Strasburg at the wheel, the car hit a world record for vehicles with catalytic converters when tested on Salt Lake, Utah. With a flying start, it achieved a top speed of 351 km/h.

With name Lotec Colani Testa D'Oro i found these pics, i think this is the actual record braking car. It's loosely based on Testarossa.

AFAIK this car is from 1994 but it's actually called Testa d'Oro so it could be an evolution. btw, the pics are too small for the hide-out, but I won't call the police...

EDIT: the car that run 351 kmh is the first one, no info on this up to know. maybe this is a Lote, not a Colani as the first. and, btw, the first is street legal in Germany...

    RE_EDIT: the car posted by Erwin is: Colani-Lotec Ferrari Testa d'Oro , 216 mph , with catalysator , US-$ 500'000 , 1992
    from the Luigi Colani's website

The Ferrari Testarossa's name (translated "Redhead") is derived from the red paint on the engine, a 180° V12 engine. This engine has undergone a massive treatment by German tuner Lotec (otherwise known for the spectacular 1000hp Sirius). As a feature, the red parts of the engine have been re- painted in gold.

Originally the plan was to break a piston engine land speed record set in the 1930s at about 400kph, but they failed due to traction problems of the ultra wide tyres on the Bonneville salt. The record for street car with catalyric converters was more or less the best they could get instead of utter failure.

The name Testa Rossa is derived from the 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa which originally had the head of the engine painted in red (as a lot of other Ferrari lately)
