In another effort to compete with the upper class BMW and Mercedes cars, Alfa Romeo launched the 6 in 1979.
It was a much bigger car than the contemporary Giulietta and was propelled by Alfa’s now famous V6. In its earliest versions all six cylinders had their own carburetor, but that set-up was later replaced by indirect fuel injection. The 2.5 litre engine poured out 158 BHP and the car could reach 195 kph.
The designer of the car was Orazio Satta, who also designed the Giulietta. Unfortunately build quality left much to be desired and production stopped in 1986, after about 12,300 were produced. Many of those have again felt victim to rust, but the ones that remain are now well appreciated by their owners after all problems were finally sorted out.
Shown is a Dutch example, that appeared at the Nuerburgring Classic GP in August 2004.
