Damn it, 4 more years of Kwame!
![]() Today, the poeple of Detroit were stupid enough to elect that thief back into office. For you people in the UK, Kwame Kilpatrick was Elected Detroit mayor 4 years ago, and we have cold hard proof in recepts and documents that Kwame was stealing the city's money for his personmal gain, like leasing a red Lincoln Navigater from the police funds, spending over $150,000 from the petty cash for tickets and dinners, using city money to do up his whole office in leather, and using more of the city's money, to buy a Manson, or turn his house into a Manson. I'm so pissed, I have to put up with this thief for 4 more years!

Detroit has a lot more problems than just the mayor...about 10,000 people move from the city every year so the population there is half what it was 50 years ago, Kwame's only been mayor 4 years. I can't say I blame them every time I've been there I wanted to leave real soon too. |

I think the majourity of you need to be quiet. Karrmann, who is typically an ignorant poster on this site, has a point for once (I'm rather sure that his opinion really isn't his, but that of his parents, teachers, etc. But it's definitely a good opinion). Kwame Kilpatric is arguably the worst mayour of any US city in years. Both Coleman Young and Hendrix would've been better qualified for the job.
The problems you arise about Detroit are all too valid and real. Detroit is an unbelievably architecturally gifted city, and a lot of that history and design is in danger now that Detroit is a dead rust belt town. Detroit was once unbelievably beautiful. So many great buildings razed, so much history destroyed. Families who worked for the car companies are left in ruin on the streets, causing a chain reaction for the rapid decay of the city. To hit it on a lighter note, the semi-abandoned Studebaker factory burnt itself to the ground in 5 alarm fashion in June-The Model T plant, on the same block, came a few feet from destruction. Care now? Kilpatric hasn't addressed any of the majour problems of a dying American Dreamtown and he won't address them soon. Detroit is rolling it's way to hell in a Ford, GM or Chrysler vehicle. It irritates me that you people all just think 'oh, Detroit's got more on its plate than just a mayour.' But the mayour is the ONE person who can fix these things! And it just so happens that Detroit's mayour doesn't care! I suppose none of you really care about heritage (it's a HUGE deal to me-it's devestating enough that the Statler's gone) or the poor living conditions of others, I suppose. Deja Vu-5,000 posts.

Esperante, you hit on the main point, and I do agree the mayor could do a lot, but not miracles. The American auto industry is a shadow of it's former self ergo Detroit is too, both are changed forever more.
What will Detroit be like after it re-invents itself which will take several decades...only time will tell. |

And how is years of Neglect, poverty and decimation this guys fault?
He's the Current Mayor, He should be doing something to help, but the blame for Detroits problems does not lay solely on his shoulders. He should be the solution.
