    Citroen 15

    Citroen 15

The Citroen 15 was the larger version of the ubiquitous 11 Traction Avant. It had a longer wheelbase, to accommodate the inline 6 cylinder engine of 2867. It was forst presented in 1938, and stayed in production until 1955. (The next six cylinder engine in a Citroen would be Maseratis V6 unit of the SM, 15 years later).

Maximum power of the indestructible six was 80 BHP at 4000 revs, resulting in a top speed of 135 kph, 15 kph faster than the 11.

In order to test Citroen upcoming hydraulic suspension in the last two years of its production 3079 of the 15s were fitted with the system on the rear axle (the car was of course FWD). These cars were named 15-6H. All in all 47670 examples were made, compared to almost 760,000 of the 11s.

Shown here is a 15H at the 2005 Retromobile show in Paris

One of my work colleagues is actually seriously considering getting one and turning it electric (not a hybrid but with full electric power). There are conversion kits around, it would be cheap enough for him, cool enough and you can park for free in parts of London, in some places they actually have to recharge your car for free as well and there is no congestion charge.
