    GSM Delta

    GSM Delta

GSM stands for Glassport Motor Company which built sportscars in South Africa and they were sold as Dart. In 1960 the company set up an affiliate in the UK, which produced the Dart under licence. In Europe the car was named Delta.

The Delta is quite a nice sportscar, with a fiberglass body on a spaced frame and powered by either a Ford Kent engine or a Coventry Climax 1500 cc. The latter produced 116 BHP and the car could reach 200 kph.

Unfortunately the UK company folded in 1961, and 35 Deltas were produced.

Here is one that participated in the Zolder historics in 2004. Judging from the cup on the bonnet it did get a prize.

Ah, hard drive, sorry again, I thought you just got rid of them. And thanks for the compliment, see, collection is nothing without ability to show it to someone who can appreciate.

I know the guy who builds them if anyone wants contact details, he's in Pinetown, KZN and the business is called Dart Racing.

The first car pictured in the thread is actually a one off Dart Sebring Coupe. Hard tops were available for Darts in two styles (rear window slanting forwards or slanting backwards). The Flamingo was later released which was a proper coupe.

35 is also a very low estimate for production, those involved put it at closer to 60 UK Deltas, 116 SA Darts and 128 Flamingoes. A large number (over 50%) of these cars have survived due to the fibreglass body and good looks.
