Before the final version of the 901 was presented some testmodels were prepared, including the one known as the “type 7”. The main differences with the final model were a much more vertical roof line and more space for the rear passengers. Hardly to be seen on this pic, the air intakes were placed as grille in each of the rear fenders just above the bumpers.
The car was used by Dr. Porsche as a mule and is now part of the collection of the Porsche museum. It is here shown in the Sinsheim museum, in a special temporary exhibition dedicated to the marque.
