the first car in a shape of that kind was polish prototype FSM beskid from 1984 which was going to replace FSM 126p, but it never reached production
1981 Matra produced a min-Espace prototype.

Renault weren't interested in taking it forward !!!!!
A lot of Matra "possible greats" were destroyed by Renault-ego and then resurrected years later as "Reanult inspired"

The Twingo was launched in 93. Oddly they didnt' make a RHD despite UK being Renaults largest export market !!!!

Let's not forget the 4x4 competition version

There is also the Andros Trophy version which is plain crazy but I've never been able to find any decent pics of it

Interesting ..

I like Renault's Twingo. But would you also deem 1930's Stout Scarab (eg) to be by-design a 'one block' car? Or the many others examples preceding 1955 (?) VW Type 2 ? More precisely, what conceptually differentiates Twingo from the plethora of similar slope-nose 'one-box' post-war designs?

As a fellow student of automotive history, one thing I learnt early on is that it is very risky to claim anything to be a 1st in the automotive world

Thanks for the translation... I don't get this ad however. It is strange.

The twingo arrives like a star at a fashion creator and the other models are jealous.

And we have the bubble cars... surely these count as one-box designs?

I once packed 10 crates of beer a '98 Twingo, never have 10 crates with Grolsch 0,5 litres looked more out of place
