The result of Peugeot's input in the construction of the Europe wide V6 engine (Renault/Peugeot/Volvo/Fiat), was first shown in the large 604 saloon, a very comfortable car with a fully independent suspension based on the successful 504. The car was first shown in 1975 and stayed in production for 11 years. Initially the engine size was 2664 cc, giving 136 bhp, but later models had a larger engine with 2849 cc and in the good Peugeot tradition fuel injection which resulted in the 604TI version. A 2.3 liter diesel and a 2.5 liter turbodiesel were also available.
Ultimately 153,252 cars were made and it has some potential to develop into a desirable classic, although many have simple disappeared. Shown is an original Dutch example, present at the 2004 Concours d’Elegance at the Loo.
