Matra M530
One year before the production stop of the Djet, Matra already presented its successor, the 530, a “new-edge” styled car avant-la-lettre. The car still had a central engine, but instead of taking one of the hot Renault products, Matra turned to Germany to buy the 70 bhp 1,7 litre V4 engine of the Ford Taunus 17M. With such a motorization, performances were rather bleak, although a maximum of 170 could still be obtained. The car was not a heavy either, with a glassfibre body on a separate chassis. Over time no changes were made to the engine specification, but the a cheaper version, the SX, had a fixed roof, and no option to remove both of the roof halves.
The car remained in production until 1973, and 9609 were made.
