Porsche GT2 is a hardcore Version of the Regular Carrera, GT3 is the Racing-Stripped out Version.

2. are all 911's also called carrera or just some?

There is also Targa, Turbo, Carrera 4.....

To answer your question; no.

3. do numbers like 997 signify the generation?

Yes. Porsche Model Designation for Generations for all models is signified by a three digit number beginning with 9.

4. what the full model line up for porshe?

At the present time
997 911
996 911 Turbo
Porsche Boxster/Boxster S
Porsche Cayman
Porsche Cayenne

And all variants of these models.

5. whats the difference between the 911's?

Each 911 has a distinct feature; the Targa has a glass roof and a hatchback, the Cabriois a convertible. It's so they can tailor the Porsche to suit the owners requirements. Or keep the engineers entertained.

Goddamn I was typing up answers and by the time I clicked submit, somebody deleted the thread already. I hate double threads. Can't you mods see who's reading the thread before you delete it?

I didn't know somebody is gonna delete it that quick, and plus the first thread got "Porsche" spelled right.

The GT1 is a racing version of the 911. It wouldn't be street worthy.

Isn't the GT2 the turbo version of the GT3?

The GT1 was a homologation built street car. I believe that Porsche bulit 34 (?) street examples, I know 2 of which were built with 993 style headlights the rest of which were built with 996 stlye headlights.

Porsche model line is simple. you have the Cayenne (suv) comes in base(v6), S (v8) turbo (Turbo v8) and a turbo s (super turbo v8)

you then have boxster and caymen. they are entry sportscars

the 911 is a legend. you have #'s for differnet generations. 993, 996, 997. past 3. carrera is just a model varitaoin. 4 is all wheel drive. s is sport. turbo is turbo. the GT's are race oriented. its quiet simple

The 997 Turbo is not out yet, neither are the Gt2 or Gt3(has no turbos) variants. The Carrera Gt is on there though...

Thats a good summary dude, but for clarification 3-7 are 911's. And as to an earlier question, GT3 has an NA engine but its lightened too (they recently had the GT3 RS which was even better!). The GT2 has a twin-turbo engine.

i thought a GT3 was a stripped out non-turbo 911, and a GT2 was a stripped out turbo 911
