Released in 1996, the Sintra proved unpopular in Europe, and its image was also adversely affected by reports of its poor results in crash safety tests. It scored only 3 out of 5 stars in the Euro NCAP test mainly due to good sideimpact test results. It was dropped in 1999, and was replaced by the much smaller Zafira, based on the Opel/Vauxhall Astra.
