    ABT Audi A2

Abt A2. A host of sporty ideas for the innovative car.

Spatial efficiency, a low fuel consumption and driving pleasure - this is why the Audi A2 conquered the streets and the hearts of many automobile enthusiasts. As the world’s leading customizer of brands of the Volkswagen Group, Abt Sportsline met the innovative car from Ingolstadt long ago and developed a comprehensive package with an extra portion of sportiness.

The aim is not to look spectacular at any price but to be a distinctive face in the crowd - that is Audi´s objective with the A2 concept. This philosophy is refined by the designers and engineers of the Bavarian enterprise. The team from Abt give the smallest member of the Audi family - which is the world´s first mass produced aluminium vehicle - a large degree of sportiness.

A classic example are the new springs from Abt which lower the A2 by around 30 to 35 millimetres. Abt Sportsline also concentrated on finding the perfect choice of wheels for the new compact class model, with eight different rims available for the A2. In addition to the classics is the Abt Sport Rim Z1, which came out on top in a test conducted in spring 2000 by the specialist magazine "auto motor und sport". All models and sizes have one thing in common: They captivate with their dynamic optics.

For the interior, Abt Sportsline came up with several ideas. The Abt Aluminium Set, comprising gearshift knob, shifting gate ring and bushing for the handbrake lever lend the generous cockpit a truly sporting appearance. Rounding off the programme is the Abt floormats sporting the Abt logo and the distinctive fine napa leather interior from Kempten.

Abt Sportsline has added two more features to the A2 package: A rear wing application made of discernible carbon, and stainless steel struts for the front grill. The Abt enterprise, managed by DTM driver Christian Abt who secured third place at the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 2000, is working on further ideas for complementing the latest models from Wolfsburg and Ingolstadt. Customers also profit from the experience and success of the racing driver. Christian Abt, the 1999 German Super Touring Car Champion (STW), personally assumes responsibility for setting-up the Abt suspension.

For those wanting not only a better suspension but also a convincing power plus, Abt Sportsline offers the competent solution: The experts from Bavaria gave the 55 kW (75 hp) standard engine a 26 percent power boost, to 70 kW (95 hp). Economy and sportiness form a new symbiotic relationship.

A final effort to sell a commercial failure, it is already a known fact that Audi will not produce a successor to the A2, when production will end is not yet made public.
