Germany’s Federal Cartel Office has approved Porsche’s bid to take a larger stake in Volkswagen.

The move is seen as a way for Stuttgart to purchase fully 25.1 percent of VW, which greatly increases the sports car company’s ability to shape decision-making at Europe’s biggest car company.

While Porsche taking a financial interest in VW was originally designed to gird the latter from hostile external takeovers (almost one-third of Porsche’s production depends directly on Wolfsburg), it is now clear that the cash-rich marque wants increased input, and will now in fact be capable of wagging the dog.

We have already seen it in the SUV department, wih the Cayenne being the same as the Toureg.

Are you implying the Cayenne is a bad SUV? Find me an SUV that is better (in any aspect the cayenne is conceived for) better than the cayenne.
Truth is the cayenne is an exceptionally good car. Porsche did a good job becaue there is simply no better SUV in the market.

Now it does remain an SUV and it is debatable weather porsche should have even done it or not. But what is important is that they did it VERY well indeed.

btw, the cayenne is NOT the "same" as the touareg. shure they share same bassic chassis but different suspension, engines, interior, exterior, tyres, technology, etc...

I'd much prefer a Touareg V10 TDi over any Cayenne if I was buying an SUV. I'd only ever buy one to go offroad, and I think it'd be easier to kit out a Touareg for off-road (not soft roading) than a Cayenne. Like being able to get off road tyres without changine the suspension or wheels.

If you really want to go off-roading why not buy a Land Rover Defender? Or a Discovery if you want a bit of comfort...
