    Riley RME

The RM series was already introduced in 1945, just after the war and it was one of first real new post-war models, with a separate body fitted to a rolling chassis, but with some nice features such as torsion bars, rather than the traditional leaf spings and hydraulic brakes.

The first version were the RMA and RMB, whereby the main difference lay in the different engine types, with a 1500 cc 4-pot for the RMA and 2443 cc four cylinder for the RMB. Outwardly the difference could be spotted by the longer hood, needed to accommodate the larger engine, for which a 6.5 longer wheelbase was required. Furthermore the badge had a different colour shape….

The RMA/E engine was the pre-war model with two lateral camshaft, place high up in the cylinder head, a design successfully used in many famous pre-war racing rileys.

In 1952 the RME succeeded the RMA, it had a better chassis and improved brakes, but outwardly the differences are unnoticeable. Production lasted until 1954, and 3446 RMEs were produced.

Shown here is a highly original/ non restored 1954 example which made its appearance at the LeMans Classic in 2006.
