What is your favourite engine and why

I'm going to put this up for a poll in a few weeks . . . but what should I include and why.

For your info my three favourite engines are;

YZF R1 (Motorbike, no it won't be included); See it rev, hear the noise!!!
LS6 from the new corvette; Lightweight compact + powerful
RB26DETT from the skyline; The Playstation generation know why !!!

I know what I might expect, prove me wrong . . . .

Well Ferrari's F130 installed in the 333 SP. It is the best, cleanest sounding racing engine I have ever heard. Not one cough or bad sound in it, pure joy to listen to!

It is the V12, 627 hp, of McLaren F1 made by BMW M-Power...

In the photo is the F1 LM's engine...

im not a fan of beemers, but the straight six in the m3 has got to be one of the best in the world, the only engine i can think of to rival it is the boxer six in the new gt3 or maybe the 360 ferrari V8

no doubt the BRM 1,5 V16 from the early fifties, you will never forget that one.

Next could be the the V10's by Ferrari and McLaren.

Henk, your sun raised you well !

I personally LOVE the BRM sound 2.
For people who don't know what sound this car produced:

I'll pass on the compliment, although he selected the 333SP. (I could not help it). The sound captions of the V16 are also available on a CD that was given free to Motorsport readers. Nick Mason (owner of a V16) talks with Simon Taylor about his cars and a few other nice sound are available (250GTO, 512S). Title of the CD is Sounds of Goodwood.

thanks for the link Thadon, I had never heard this sound before, but it's just brilliant. I think my neighbours now also know what a BRM V16 sounds like

An other engine (sound) that I love is the Porsche 12 cilinder from the 917K, if you've seen the movie LeMans you probably know what I mean. lovely sound

on this site: http://www.racecar.co.uk/goodwoodpressday2000/
are some more sound files from passing racing classics like the 917K, the 250 GTO and the Batmobile, there are also lots of pictures of them.

From the mass produced engines, the one I like the most is the VWAG 4cyl 1.8 turbo. It's powerfull, economical and reliable.

From the supercars and exotics, the engine I like the most is the V12 6.2 of the Murciélago. With loads of torque and hp, it can make any car amazingly fast.

The sound of the '60s and '70s big-block V8 muscle-cars I like the most. A 7-litre V8 I would like top have in the poll

I guess a rolling start of CANAM cars (the current Supersport Series) might be your ultimate pleasure. Try to visit one at Spa or the Nurburgring

Jaguar 4.2 XK-engine (it's quite reliable and it's been put in many sports cars)
Coventry Climax (could race it while still cold)
Ford 289 cu.in. V8
Ferrari 312
and of course the greatest sounding ever: British Racing Monster V16 !!!!!!!
