I had one of these -- and in the same color. Yes, it was officially called The Thing.
It was very VERY primitive. No insulation at all which meant that you froze in the winter but it could get through snow that even stopped Jeeps, probably because of the very light weight. It was a lot of fun but just not practical and I sold it after about a year.
