Computer help.

Hey everyone, I have been having a few problems recently. Any streaming video other than flash and quicktime will not work, basically any embedded streaming WMP file will crash my firefox AND IE browsers whilst trying to load..

Secondly, after doing some research and updating Java and what not, no problems are made better, in fact it got worse. I found out that whenever I try to access tools > options in WMP, it pops up, then crashes, coming up with the blue screen saying Windows has shut down, um windows, for safety precautions.

This is an unknown to me, and i'm currently lost, any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou in advance

From the reading I have done, it might be something to do with the embedded files witihin the browser that read the WMP plugin. Wether there is a conflict, or a corruption, I don't know. It starts to load a WMP streaming file within the browser, then crashes, both Firefox and IE..very frustrating indeed.

Anything I can do to save bookmarks? I have quite a few and I wouldn't want to lose them..

But then, it just highlights the problem with WMP itself then, because it has carried over to both IE and Firefox

There's a favourites folder here: C:\Documents and Settings\*username*

Copy all the favourites from there to wherever you want to copy them to and put them back in when you're done.

AFTER uninstalling. Otherwise you will still have junk in registry and you will have to find every line in regedit and remove it, which is essentially what an uninstaller does for you.

Going to blue screen of death sounds to me like a a fragment is damaged on the HD. If it's damaged non-physically then a quite defragment could do the job. If it is physical damage, it's time to backup what you can and get a new HD.

Ouch. I had problems with viewing things online too. The Javascript and Flash run stuff just wouldn't run. Recently, I reformatted my computer and it's fine now. Maybe you should give it a try. Get an external hard drive, ram all the stuff you need into it and reformat.

But you can fix pretty much anything software based by doing that. The reason most people don't do that to fix their problems is because they wont usually have the disks or time to reinstall software.

Re-formating is the go then? I don't have to discs on me so I guess its time to start sucking up to my mates hahaha

seeing as its both IE and Firefox i'll try a defragment first, then, if that fails, reformating will have to be.

Full reformat or the quick format that keeps all of the data stored onto the computer?

But I also reinstalled Javascript and Flash many times over, it still didn't work.

Each case is different, Blitz. Try working it out first. Reformatting is almost a last ditch effort.

Reinstalling the software isn't going to work, I learnt that the hard way As for working it out, I found out that some files were missing from my HDD and they controlled the JavaScript and Flash. Reinstall WinXP or find a replacement file from the Internet Best to reinstall WinXP because it's hell hard to find a replacement. I still can't use the WYSIWYG interface on UCP because JavaScript stuffed... I can't post attachments either.
