    Toyota Corolla (10th gen - E140) 2006–2013

    The Toyota Corolla (E140/E150) is the tenth generation of cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate. Introduced in late 2006, this series was replaced in 2012 in Japan, with North American model replaced in late 2013, and an early 2014 launch for most other markets. The Toyota Auris replaces the Corolla hatchback in Japan and Europe, but is still badged "Corolla" in Australia and New Zealand.

    The new Corolla has now grown slightly longer for the export models 4,540 mm (178.7 in) and wider 1,760 mm (69.3 in) compared to the outgoing model. The chassis of the E140 and E150 are based on the Toyota MC platform.

    Exciting driving pleasure

    * New D-4D 125 diesel engine
    * All-new 1.6 Dual VVT-i petrol
    * Choice of three transmissions

    To ensure it delivers on its promise of greater driver appeal, the all-new Corolla features a selected range of high technology engines and drive trains to meet customer needs and expectations. There is a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines with three different transmissions.

    All engines meet Euro IV emissions standards and the highly efficient aerodynamic styling ensures the new Corolla delivers low fuel consumption with reduced exhaust gasses while also contributing to remarkably low noise levels.

    Two new engines, one petrol and one diesel, will be available in the new Toyota Corolla range.

    The 1.6-litre petrol is an all-new, dual VVT-i engine developing excellent performance and low fuel consumption. The new, dual VVT-i technology adjusts both the intake and exhaust valve timing of the engine to ensure maximum efficiency under all operating conditions.

    This results in significantly increased torque at low and medium engine speeds with increased power output at higher speeds. At the same time, it enhances fuel consumption and reduces emissions.

    Maximum power output is 91 kW (124 hp DIN) at 6,000 rpm while the dual VVT-i technology ensures a remarkably constant torque output for a petrol engine, peaking at 157 Nm at 5,200 rpm.

    To complement the 1.6-litre petrol, the 1.4-litre VVT-i from the current Corolla range is carried over. It develops 71 kW (97 hp DIN) at 6,000 rpm, with a maximum torque of 130 Nm at 4,400 rpm.

    The new diesel engine to the Corolla range is the latest generation 2.0 D-4D 125 that is now at the heart of Toyota’s diesel growth strategy in Europe. This remarkable engine has been developed from the highly successful 2.2-litre D-4D range and offers both increased driving pleasure through high power output and excellent fuel economy.

    Installed in the new Corolla, the D-4D 125 equipped with Oxydation Catalytic converter (CCo) develops a maximum 93 kW (126 hp DIN) with a constant torque output of 300 Nm from 2,000 to 2,800 rpm (with DPF from 1,800 to 2,400 rpm). This gives the new Corolla D-4D 125 outstanding mid-range in-gear performance for maximum driving pleasure under real world conditions.

    The new Corolla D-4D 125 will be available with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which not only strictly reduces Hydrocarbons (HC) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) like conventional catalysts but also enable simultaneous reduction of particulate matter. The DPF is ‘self-cleaning’ and requires no long-term maintenance.

    For maximum economy, the highly popular 1.4-litre D-4D from the current model is carried over to the new Corolla range. This engine develops 66 kW (90 hp DIN) at 3,800 rpm and 190 Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 3,000 rpm.

    The wide range of customers for the new Corolla will also find a choice of transmissions, each carefully matched to suit the characteristics of the engine output.

    A conventional five-speed manual gearbox is available with both petrol engines and the 1.4-litre diesel while the high performance D-4D 125 is available with a six-speed manual. Drivers wanting a more relaxed driving style can choose the MultiMode transmission with paddle shift which offers either automatic or manual gear changing – it is available with either the 1.6-litre dual VVT-i petrol or the 1.4-litre D-4D diesel.
    Superior driving experience

    * All-new suspension for maximum stability
    * Excellent driver control and involvement
    * Precise, responsive steering

    Chief Engineer, Toshi Ezaki wanted the new Corolla to give drivers more “excitement and delight” without affecting its worldwide reputation for ease of use and superior quality. There has been a strong focus on driving dynamics with improved stability, responsive handling and precise steering control. At the same time ride comfort has been enhanced and noise levels reduced to ensure top class NVH.

    The newly-developed, compact and highly rigid front suspension is an L-arm MacPherson strut which ensures excellent noise and vibration isolation while supporting both superior stability and subtle ride comfort. At the rear, the new torsion beam suspension accommodates the vehicle packaging while also contributing to handling, stability and ride comfort.

    Wheel and tyre sizes have been increased to 15” and 16” for greater ride comfort and the newly adopted Electric Power Steering (EPS) is precise and responsive; reacting free of delay to driver input.

    Greatly reduced Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) has been achieved through the adoption of a highly rigid body structure and careful positioning of sound absorbing material. The strong body frame with a structure that disperses collision energy is also a major contributor to the excellent performance of the new Corolla in safety tests.

    Toyota is anticipating that the new Corolla will achieve a top class Euro-NCAP rating and the frontal design has been developed and engineered to help reduce injury to pedestrians.

    For active safety, the new Corolla range is available with Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD). The Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is either standard or optional depending on the market.

    The new Toyota Corolla model range will be available with up-to 9 airbags (depending on grade).

    The new Corolla, setting new standards in its class.

    A lot better than the previous one, in terms of appearance (IMO).

    The 1.6 engine is a nice addition, as the 1.4 would suffer from such a heavy car.

    Is it just me, or in the second interior pic the car has a manual gearbox but only two pedals...?

    By the way I don't like it at all.

    Yeah, it seriously has some catching up to do after the Civic came out. I don't think this will sell as well as it used to. Still looks relatively nice, but I'd still pick the Civic over this.

    It could be any car its design isn't particularly distictive. That look will look dated pretty quickly as well.

    Looks like a mini-Avalon. Nice but it will quickly disappear in the sea of small cars, like most Corollas before it.

    Corolla 2010 – sophisticated design, improved quality, advanced technology

    Corolla’s distinctive, evolutionary design has become an icon of Toyota’s core values of superior quality, style, driving pleasure and innovation. It offers European customers maximum interior space, a high quality passenger environment and impressive comfort levels.

    With 62,000 units sold in 2009, the Corolla remains the world’s best-selling C-segment sedan. Corolla 2010 reinforces the superior quality, style and innovation of Toyota’s best-selling sedan. It features a new, more sophisticated design, a higher quality interior and advanced, user-friendly equipment.

    The up-dated Corolla 2010 will further enhance the Toyota sedan’s reputation for offering outstanding value for money in the C-sedan segment. It will remain the company’s core model in Eastern Europe, maintaining its best-selling status throughout the region.

    More dynamic exterior design

    The exterior of the Corolla has been revised to create a more advanced, sophisticated and dynamic image, reinforcing the Toyota sedan’s premium quality status within the C-segment.

    A new front features a redesigned bumper, radiator grille and lower grille. This emphasises the car’s low centre of gravity and driving stability. The new headlamps further strengthen the Corolla’s bold, resolute appearance.
    To the rear, comprehensive changes to the license plate garnish, combination lamps, bumper and low-level reflectors have been incorporated. This creates an impression of increased width, emphasising the Corolla’s broad rear stance.

    Corolla 2010 also benefits from the enhanced product appeal of new, power retractable door mirrors with integral turn indicators and a new, sportier 16” wheel cap and alloy wheel design. A range of eight available body colours now includes new Red and Blue metallic finishes.

    Enhanced perceived interior quality

    The Corolla 2010’s interior has been improved, strengthening the Toyota sedan’s reputation for superior quality, style and innovation.

    A new, flat bottomed steering wheel, finished in leather on higher grade models, features a thicker, more comfortable grip cross-section.

    The combination meter design features a colour change from amber to white, and the instrument panel and door handle trim are now finished in a more sophisticated, high-brightness silver coating. The same high quality finish is also available on the centre console and door switch surrounds.

    A wireless trunk opening function has been added, giving customers the additional convenience of remote operation via a button on the ignition key.

    Two interior colour schemes are available - dark grey and light grey. Both interior designs feature a highly functional yet sophisticated dark grey finish to the upper dashboard area. Improved Mid and High grade seat fabric and a newly available, Alcantara upholstery further underline the superior quality of the Corolla 2010.

    Advanced technology

    The AM/FM/CD audio system, with a choice of four or six speakers is now available with Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity. The system features USB and AUX sockets for the connection of portable music playing devices. The USB jack is located within the centre storage box to allow for the secure stowage of MP3 players whilst on the move.

    The Corolla also features an innovative, Gentex rear view mirror. With automatic anti-glare dipping, the mirror incorporates a 3.3 inch rear view monitor which displays an image from the rear view camera whenever reverse gear is engaged. The display incorporates static guidelines to further assist drivers with parking manoeuvres.

    All engines feature Toyota Optimal Drive

    The Corolla 2010 engine line-up offers customers a choice of 1.33 litre Dual VVT-i and 1.6 litre Valvematic petrol engines, and 1.4 and 2.0 litre D-4D diesel units. Every engine features the performance- and economy-enhancing benefits of Toyota Optimal Drive, and meets Euro 5 emissions standards .

    Designed to optimise the balance of performance and driving enjoyment with fuel economy and low emissions, Toyota Optimal Drive focuses on several key aspects of powertrain development such as environmentally friendly technologies, low friction components, lightweight, compact design and enhanced combustion efficiency.

    The application of Toyota Optimal Drive across the model range ensures that the Corolla 2010 not only demonstrates the optimum balance between performance and emissions, but also that its fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are amongst the lowest in the segment.

    The Corolla 1.4 D-4D boasts CO2 emissions of just 125 g/km, and the 1.33 Dual VVT-i with Stop & Start technology only 133 g/km. These significant reductions in CO2 emissions will offer owners a tax advantage in many European markets.
