Importing Euro cars to US
Just curious but have any of you imported a car that was originally built for the European market to the US? In particular I was wondering about Alpina cars in the US (ones other then the Alpina Roadster that was sold in small numbers 3 years ago). Is this possible and what are the possible costs of the equipment and shipping?

Not worth the time or money.
You'd have to buy 11 of them to crash before you could even buy one. Then you have to convert all the glass, bumpers, and emissions control devices to US-spec. In effect make an EDM car into an USDM car. It defeats the purpose. Buy your BMW, buy the Alpina parts, and make your own.

or register it under the US equivalent or wait 25 years.

just import it through the black market
Is that how they get Koenigseggs into the US (theres a few in the US, i think)"It(Koenigsegg CC8S) still holds the fastest speeding ticket, 240 mph, in Texas." -Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear Season 8 Episode 1 in Koenigsegg CCX test

No. That was apart of the Gumball Rally IIRC, so it wasn't being registered in the US, just driven across it

Step 1: Import to Mexico.
Step 2: Drive across border. |

Shipping it in pieces, which is harder and harder these days, allows registration as a kit-car. Customs, now of days, is a bit smarter at cathing that sort of thing, so you really have to be convincing. The other option is to be a resident of another country, you can then register it for a year. After a year you have to ship it back and try again.
