Yeah. It sucks.

For some reason, I find that video extremely entertaining.

Spoken like a true Scot... ACH!

Matra, you ever see the video of the WRC car hit the sheep? I saw it once years ago while my old man was watching some rallying and I have looked for it since - any idea where I can catch it?

Don't remember sheep ... will think about it and see if I do tomorrow ( I usually dream about sheep anyway )

Loeb and the cow in Argentina was always a good one .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqIgze3nsuk

Oh man, poor cow, but I had to laugh. That is too funny. The one with the sheep was too key. The car stopped DEAD in it's tracks and the sheep went airborne a short while. Man I remember it cracking the hell out of me seeing it again in slow mo!

Well, my math teacher said that it isn't worth stopping for small animals (i.e. dogs, cats, squirrels, the occasional chicken ), because it isn't worth swerving onto oncoming traffic or the car next to you or pedestrians. And I think it's a very fair idea. However, he also said that there's a limit to that rule- for anything with four legs higher than your windshield, try your best to avoid (i.e. a cow, moose, deer, etc).

What was the damage to the car afterwards? Are there any pictures circulating?

When my dad had his last Vectra, we were travelling on an A-class road doing about 80mph when we saw a bird fly out of the trees at the side of the road and land in the middle of our lane not far in front of us. Dad braked and managed to hit it doing 50mph. Luckily there was no damage to the car (we expected some from the sound it made), but I think the bird was decapitated by the front splitter.

How fast were you going when you hit the chicken? An RX-8's lower than a Vectra, and a chicken bigger than whatever it was we hit so I'd expect the potential for damage to be greater.

We had this with a rabbit once. He ran onto the motorway and kept still, gazing around... My dad speeded up and after we hit it, put it in a plastic bag in the back. We had some plastic bent and broken, but nothing serious... I must say it tasted good !

Animals really are stupid... I nearly ran over a squirrel the other day that saw me, stopped dead, and decided to stay where it was... it's not like I was speeding, 5mph in a car park isn't hard to escape from! So I moved my wheels and just drove over the top of it. A shame the person behind me wasn't so humane.

Could have been a lot worse, good thing it wasn't something bigger like an elephant. An elephant now that would suck.
