And you've won...A NEW CAR

Well, I didn't win one, but I am getting a new car sometime this summer, and I was thinking you guys could offer some suggestions. Here's what I'm looking for:
Probably around $35,000- $40,000 US
Will probably be living in Los Angeles
Just has to carry me and my stuff
Fun to drive, somewhat quick

Where's he going to buy that from, then? More to the point: Where the hell is he supposed to get it serviced etc.?

Elise FTW!

Every review of the C4 VTS Coupe has said it's surprisingly unsporty. Well, probably not even unsurprisingly.

Arkansas, Conway, not so bad, really.
No, no, no. The existence of the 350Z renders most cars in this price category redundant, especially the Pontiac G8.

If you can get your hands on an Elise, grab it and don't let go. Failing that, M3 anyone? Other than sometimes fickle reliability, there's not much to touch a well-sorted M3.

Then there are the rally reps: STi and EVO. I'd stay away from both though, unless you're the kind of person who gets their thrills from simple, unadorned speed without asking much from the driver (like me.) If A to B quick on any road is your thing, go for it though.

Also, you're looking at second-hand RS4 money. You could do worse in the driver involvement category and there's nothing with more evocative, intimidating badge appeal, in my opinion.

And then there's my favorite option for a 40,000 budget: buy a ratty old Ferrari 308 and a secondhand Miata. Between the two of them, you can scratch any itch.

the 350Z is an overwieght impractical pig...if you wanted to inflict upon yourself two seats, why not go for the elise or the miata option? and if you wanted to inflict a bit of wieght upon yourself, then the G8 fits the bill more competently than hodge podge 350Z.

Elise FTW!
Import it from Europe and remove all the safety features.

Find a good mechanic nearby and buy him a 500 € computer to read it out !

I've driven one and they are really hard ! Also the steering is quite direct. It might be the sportiest of all the hatchbacks out now ! Offcourse you should not compare it to an Elise or M3 or whatever...

.......The sportiest hatch out now?

I think cars like the Clio 197, Focus ST et al might something to say about that.

on a side note, you cannot buy Citroens in the US - they're not imported.

Hard? Hard ride? They make you hard? They're made of hard materials?
