    SunRed SR08

SunRed, an automotive development company based in Spain, made news recently when they revealed one of the strangest solar-powered motorcycles ever. But the company isn't just into two-wheeled conveyances. When they unveiled their bike at the Barcelona Motor Show, they also debuted their next foray into extreme machines: the SR08.

The firm's new supercar is being developed to campaign in the FIA GT1 series, with a limited run of 10 vehicles to reach homologation requirements. The carbon fiber monocoque stretches over 16 feet long and about three and a half feet tall, and gets motivation courtesy of a 500 HP V10 mounted amidships. Carbon ceramic brakes, with 380 mm discs and six-piston calipers, put the kibosh on kinetic energy, while adjustable Ohlins ensure that body roll is kept to an absolute minimum.

With a power to weight ratio of 4.85 lbs./hp, the SR08 can theoretically reach 60 in under three and a half seconds, and on to a top speed of 300 km/h.

Looks like a mishap with a Maserati MC12, a Murcielago and a race-car parts bin. If it makes it to the track I'll be impressed.

Unfortunately this car is useless now since they are changing the Fia GT regulations so at least 300 road cars would be required for homologation, among other changes.

300? How the hell did the MC12 get homologated then?

the new regulations are going to be charge from 2010

there will be two championship: the World Championship for the GT1 class and the European Championship for the GT2 class. the technical rules for the two championships were going to be stated at the end of the year (2007, I don't know if they actually did it, the articles I'm basing on are from last year, I'm going to check later), and will be written between FIA and ACO.
for 2009, both new cars and old (form this year) are allowed in a sort of transitional season as for the 2007 LMS (IIRC).
the new cars should be based on a road car built in at least 300 units a year but FIA could eventually refuse to admit a car they think it's too extreme.
the regulations are going to be based on the contemporary GT2 class with some modifications regarding the aerodynamics for the new GT1 class.
the cars are going to be heavier but more powerful than now.
GT1 class: at least 5,5 liter engine, two homologations, 650 hp and 1300 kg, or 600 hp and 1250 kg
GT2 class: behind 5 liter engine, 500 hp and 1250 kg, or 450 hp and 1200 kg
if a car has a displacement between 5 and 5,5 liter, the automaker or tuner can decide in which class participate, but not in both class.
the engine could be changed with another from the same manufacturer if the new one is used in a car built in at least 5000 units a year.
the GT3 class will be unchanged.

EDIT: the 2009 is going to be the year of debut of the new rules, this is the last year for all the contemporary GT1 cars.
