    BMW-Sauber (F1-2008) F1.08

BMW-Sauber today unveiled the car which they hope will be able to take the fight to the likes of McLaren and Ferrari in 2008, after being the 'best-of-the-rest' last year.

First impressions are that the front wing does not have the 'bridge' that many current cars do, although the front wing looks absolutely humongous!

Also the design at the rear around the engine cover looks interesting. The position of the exhausts us a little different to most, and the rear body work drops away dramatically before reaching the rear suspension. The car retains the McLaren-esque 'horns' on the side of the airbox, and BMW have developed front wheel covers like Ferrari and Toyota, although the BMW design seems somewhat different to what we've seen before.

    Interesting stuff!

I think this is going to be one of the teams to watch this year, especially Kubica.

It looks like they've taken a big step with the car... time will tell if it is a step forward or backwards (I'd guess forward, but we'll see)

the big step being reflected by all the flips, flaps, wings and foils that currently seem to be necessary?

I think the frame of thought is that they dont just put stuff on randomly, so they must have done enough testing and decided that each part actually helps out.

But who knows, I hope it does help 'cause I want to see Kubica on more podiums.

Well you can get a general idea from the dimensions of all the flip-ups where the restrictions for the bodywork all are. The general theory is simply to better direct the airflow towards the rear wing and away from the rear wheels.

The car looks good though, IMO better than the Toyota, McLaren and Ferrari. Whats going on with the diffuser though?

Gotta love the duct tape over the diffuser. And detest those aerodynamic frisbees they insist on putting on - hideous they are!

Unless you really know what you are looking for, all the cars will look the same. And none of them will look the same as they do now when they get to the first GP.

wonder why did they bother to cover the diffuser....it'll be seen the first time the car hits the track...

they should've just do what Ferrari does and use the old components for the unveiling...

An interesting pic from today's testing. BMW trying a rather bizarre looking 'bull horn' appendage to the nose cone. It will be interesting to see whether it makes it onto any race configurations this season.
