Mini Update

bump..

easiest way to get engine into mini imo:

step 1: put subframe on ground



step 2: drop engine into subframe, do up bolts


step 3: using highly technical milk crate jack stands to assist, lift car over engine and lower it onto subframe



engine is in. first time since 2006 that it's had a motor.


hook up steering rack..


then wheels on and bam, suspension fine tuning and negative camber arms to come

Nice, what is the size if the engine, is it a 1275.

yup 1275 from a clubman GT, mild cam, ported and polished, LCB exhaust and that's it. expecting maybe 90hp tops before the carbs run out of puff.

Do you have SU carbs on your mini, if so what size.

A very nice Mini engini i whish i had in my mini at a Mini show.

yep SU, twin 1 1/4" carbs, would be reaching the limits of those before i could go any further.

suspension on the mini is pretty simple, the rear having no means for adjustment, so..
rear camber brackets to get rid of the degrees it has from factory.


they are pretty basic and you can make them yourself, but they are only $20 to buy so not worth the time lol
they go on the end of the suspension arm where it mounts to the subframe, levering it upwards and thus angling the wheel back;


the plates slot into each other using those groves, so you jack the arm up until you can get the required setting then bolt it on.


all covered up!


super simple and super easy to put on, would do it to any mini no problem.

yeah that was me painting following the instructions on the paint tin.. my second attempt was much better haha

yes, to fit the hilo suspension you have to wind it down to it's lowest setting to make it fit easier - i haven't wound it back out yet now that it is in the car.

but is it street legal to have the wheels stick out that far? (has something to do with pedestrian protection.)

nope, it will need flares, simple bolt on fibreglass or plastic ones will do. i have some innocenti flares but they don't do a good enough job- have to at least cover all of the tread/horizontal surface of the tyre:



these should do the job, but i am not sure how they attach..
