Triumph Spitfire
i'm short of time here so i'll just do a fiset test, i'll do a mini one when i get back in a week or so
is it practical? yes...no yes, you can fit a carton of beer in the back, and behind the seats you fit a suprising amount of stuff there, but no you can't leave it anywhere because it has no door locks is it economical? no, 14L/100km is what i usually get but it is mostly a weekend car, and hasn't been tuned yet. Is it fun to drive? yes. it weighs 750kg and has a 2.7L straight six. it is no track warrior, more of a cruiser that won't let you down in the twisties. just ride the torque baby Will it break down all the time? yes the pertinent question is more, will it run all the time Is it easy to park? it's tiny (see pics below, the park bench behind it) and you have 360 degree field of vision. also, it fits under boomgates so you don't have to pay for parking either What if I go to a Shopping Centre and get chased by baddies in a Corvette? you'll have broken down, wheel clamped, and then towed before you manage to get into the shopping centre Is it green? yes, recycling again emissions, not so much Can I afford it? yes easily, but don't expect to find one in this spec for cheap. What If I'm asked to take part in a beach assault with the Royal Marines? well it is mostly fiberglass panels so you will float, but the water will have shorted out all the electrics and the chassis will rust out before you get to the beach.

nice Triumph Spitfire. my auto and music teacher had a Triumph TR6 and we had a customer in our high school auto shop come in with one of these Spitfires. it was a woman who sat in it. my auto teacher sat in it and he stuck out like a soar thumb. oh yeah, my music teachers TR6 is mustard yellow and my auto teachers TR6 was bright red.

14L/100? Is that a TR6 engine in there?

LOL at no door locks...
![]() Indeed, where's the six from? I like it, but not too sure about the wheels.

I'm also scratching my head about the 2.7L I-6. I don't think it could have come from the TR5 or TR6 because they both used a 2.5L powerplant. Can you give us a little more detail about that engine?
As far as as "retrotech swapping" into an old British sportscar, I cringe at the idea of using a Japanese engine. Does anybody else recognize the cruel irony in that? Last edited by demonrunning07; 06-28-2009 at 07:30 PM. |

yup
had some work done to it hence displacement also is not tuned yet, running rich. blue flames at every hard upshift pfft if a would be car thief can get it running and drive off with it, more power to him it's better than what i can do right now if not then i'll just go get it from where it pulled over a hundred metres up the street ![]() as for the wheels, they came with it. i think they're from a lancer or an R31 or something equally hideous. some sort of minilite/watanabe style wheels are on the menu.

watanabe's are class. want some for the RX, but have to go with Panasports, as Watanabe doesnt make the right bolt pattern.

short update:
has been dyno tuned. ~130hp at rear wheels, dunno if munted gearbox and driveshaft helped. didn't give me torque read out for some reason. was told to go upgrade brakes before modding it any further. been driving it a LOT. since tune the fuel consumption is down to 11L/100km, much better. next on the agenda is recondition gearbox and fix driveshafts
