Is it time for me to bother?
Now I know this might sound a little like a no-brainer, but is it worth the money and effort learning to drive? I became of driving age last december and have since been in two minds about learning. On one hand, I have the money necessary, I'd very much like being able to drive etc etc; but I also have exams coming up soon, not enough money for a car or insurance of my own, and no life-threatening need to travel far by myself. I was just wondering what you guys think I should do and whether or not it's worth plunging valuable time and money into one of the great freedoms of life?

At some point it will be, but if you have no access to a car you can use at the moment then I guess there's no rush. Might be worthwhile waiting until the exams are over then re-evaluating then.

yeah no point learning until you are near the point of needing to.
What are you studying ? Remember come job application time, some employers need you to have a driving license --- so don't leave it too late ![]() My brother waited 10 years till HE needed to drive !! SPend your money on birds and booze, plenty of time to learn to drive !!!!!

Do what you feel is right. Remember it is usually easier (and cheaper) to pass the test when you are younger. I see "full clean lisense" on CVs maybe its good for some jobs you may get into.
Other than that if its not a priority then fine. My parents gave me good advice and got me driving asap for my own good (we lived in the middle of Glenshee, hilly place in Scotland - not much people in immediate vicinity) so thanks to them in hindsight.

I got my license a month after I was eligible. It's a handy thing to have, even if you don't have ready access to a vehicle.
But again, if there are more pressing things to spend your money on (and they include things you would like to press against ) prioritise

best to get it now, as you are under no pressure of needing in immediately.

Finish your exams and learn over the summer is my advice. You should learn sometime, preferably sooner, just because as a general rule you will get busier and busier as you get older.

Thanks for the good advice, I'll definitely leave it for the summer now. And as for those questioning my being here; I don't have to drive to enjoy cars, and I'm sure you all had a strong liking for cars before you learnt to drive, no?
Thank you anyway, and I'll let you know how it goes when I get it done.

We do indeed. But driving makes them even better and more enjoyable.

But yeah, on the original post, you do what you need to do. On the practical side, not sure how it works in the UK, but I know that a driver's license works as excellent identification. |
