Overall I think the design is trying too hard but it will be secondary to the drivetrain layout on the potential buyers checklist...regarding the target market. I'm glad to see a new rear wheel drive car on the market. Speaking of marketing, why didn't they just call it the Celica?

On the Toyota side I would have preferred a design closer to their FT concept from a few years ago with a bit less extreme cantilever roof. They instead sacked the cantilever roof altogether which is a bummer IMO. The earlier FT86 concept had it.

It looks good, I am pretty excited for this. It will probably be a bit out of my price range when I look for a new car but I can dream.

I kinda like the fact that the production car has a less "cab-forward" windscreen and more pronounced front wheel arches...but the car seems a tad high off the ground at the moment...

I agree that the car looks a little high, but I think that might be because we've been seeing concepts for the last few years and those usually sit quite low.

And have gigantic wheels...

The wheel looks to be of reasonable size and width, goes along with the exploitable limit. The brake looks comparably puny by modern car standard, but at 2700-ish lb it is also rather light for a modern car with a roof.

Here's more colors...and they also note the seemingly high ride height.

^^^^ probably deliberate so they can sell aftermarket bigger wheels and lowering kits
THough, to be fair, a low slung car cant survive the influx of "sleeping policemen" in the UK - I've half a dozen routes in city I cant drive now or I scrape more paint off the bottom of my car

One thing I hope is that this ride height is high enough for the US NHTSA standard(at bumper height). VW raises the ride height of US spec GTI vs EU car(1.25" I think) to comply with the US law.....

^^^^ ah sounds a much more sensible reason than my speculation
and expect Europe to get better handling, low slung styling

Looks nice. Really good that it is rear wheel drive. Needs a decent motor. ;-)

Jeebus that is ugly.

Here's a video of them in action. In Japanese though.

Subaru BRZ: This is it

Subaru version....looks largely the same(including the wheels, which is kinda odd). Different front bumper/grille treatment(arguably cleaner looking). No goofy "86-Boxer" badge, replaced with a vent, back end is largely the same...

No words on powertrain differences, if any...
