Apparently we will have the opportunity. Unless they pull a Corvette.

[QUOTE=NSXType-R;941625]I saw a Jetta with a fartcan. What would be German rice? [QUOTE]

I see loads of riced-out Golfs every day. Like these. But i have to say, most of us prefer rather discrete tuning, although the Turks over here are masters in ricing BMW's .

Riced German cars are rarer here, cheap German cars are not very well equipped anyway.

Most of the rice is in the form of E46 M3s, which is a bit of a shame.

Forgot to put it down, I saw a new Impreza STI wagon, the quad tailpipe version. It looks better facelifted, especially from the rear. The owner was a bus dispatcher I believe.

Am i right if i think that you don't get most of our base versions (like, for instance, the non-TSI Golf 1.4 with 80 hp)?

Yeah. We only get the more luxury versions, even as our base versions. And a lot of the time it's even impossible to get a base version without tons of options unless you special order it.

Correct, the lowest priced we get here has the 2.5 with 170hp, and starts at about $18k, which is a significant bit more than it's competitors.
I think this is partially why the only modern Golfs I see are GTIs, because the offer more power, torque, and "sporting credentials" for, I think, three grand or so more.
Another reason the base Golf isn't too popular is because the base Jetta is priced within a few hundred dollars of it and most Americans still seem to be hatchophobes.

To be honest, i don't understand why VW and the other German brands refuse to bring their base models over. In general, i understand the problem that the american market is very different from the european and that, for example, an 80hp Golf wouldn't be as great on those wide, straight american streets than over here, but hey- if you live in a big city (like NY or LA), you will appreciate the fuel economy. Besides, you wouldn't need that much power because of all the traffic jams.
On the other side, the Ami's get pretty exciting stuff like the Jetta TDI Cup editon.

Well I think part of it is attached to brand image. Right now we see, for instance, BMWs as all being luxurious sporty cars. If you bring over a base model with a cheaper plastic interior, no options and rubber floor mats, then people will say "I drove a BMW once, it had a shitty interior. All BMWs must have the same. They suck." Like even some people on this forum have done about some brands.

I saw a Vincent Black Shadow today across from a Cisitalia 202 GT.

Bonus points for those who can guess where I went.

Yup. That didn't take too long.

Highlight of the trip. Everything else did not interest me much.

I went specifically for the Henri-Cartier Bresson exhibit, but it was extremely crowded.

We see a Cisitalia spyder in the shop every so often, along with a few Siatas.
