Oh man, it looks so much like the Smart ForFour. I bet Renault were really kicking themselves when they realised that Smart had already made a car that looked just like this one... Hang on... This is a 10 year old concept car... Hmmm... I smell plagiarism!

It's even worse, MATRA produced prototypes - real working cars - the P48 and P55 and Zoom almost 15 years ago.

    Zoom was 2 seats, P55 was 4.

If only Renault had paid attention

Matra are now part of Pinninfarina design so here's hoping they continue to be 10 years ahead

Not quite Zoom. I thought it was the car that could retract it's rear wheels so that it could fit into parking spaces.

Uncanny resemblence to the smart car though.

    Yes, it was.
The front end and interior design cues for the P55 came from the Zoom.
It was cited as being the 4-seat version of the Zoom - just without the zany fold-up rear wheels or the even CRAZIER clothes of the drivers !!!

No debate on that, I'd only brought the earlier designs in to show the styling existed LONG before Swatch discussed a crazy idea with M-B

Ah well, what are they doing today that can be classed as future thinking? Maybe they ran out of Ideas?

    Unlikely, but possible.

    Who ....
Renault ? Some of Matt's posts are more recent.
    Swatch ? continuing "badge engineering"
M-B ? Failing in F1 and making ugly small cars and uglier big cars (:ducks: )
Matra ? Now part of Pinninfarina Design. Big fallout with Reanult over the Avantime but contributed to a number of Renault concept cars before the split.
Everybody ? Don't like the retro designs so many are coming up with, but some are still innovating.
Those crazy dressed Zoom owners ? Probably smoking Gaulloise, drinking Absinthe and discussing philosophy while listening to jazz

This car was a Smart lookalike but but years more beautiful. Renault (specially with Matra) has been always ahead with great ideas. But this tima they waited to long. It would be nice if it came to production even so. Because I'm sick of watching only those stupid Smarts passing by. The ForFour is one of the ugliest cars of the this century and the last toghether.

Remenber the Isetta was the first bubble car that looked just like a Smart in concept... But those days there wasn't so much traffic. That's thinking ahead...
