Today

Well, its election day! For some it means hoping the Bush/Cheney team comes out on top, for others, the Kerry/Edwards team. Whatever side your on this should be a pretty interesting day as far as how close the voting is.

Not meant to show any prejudice against either candidate, but I don't think there's any way bush is winning again.

Sweeny, nice avatar. [/sarcasm]

I am a hardcore Republican, and during our mock school debates I debated on the Republican side with 2 other friends. I promised to them that if John Kerry wins, I will make a bulleted list of everything he did wrong and everything he wavered on. I am hoping to pass 10 pages double sided, seeing as in the past 3 months I got 3 pages.

The way George Bush won the last election was by cheating- all the Floridians who voted Democrat weren't counted. I think that the good ole boy would happily do that again.

Go Kerry.

So, in other words you're going to admit, in advance, to being a sore loser?

OWNED

Reminds me of a guy in our team who was classified as "analytical" in a personalty awareness class. He came in the next day with 2 pages of reasons why he was NOT analytical and STILL didn't get why we were all pissing ourselves laughing in the class

CNN just said they won't be presenting any preliminary reports on who is winning, they'll just report on the final outcome when it's anaunced. Does anyone know of a web site where you can see how the election is going in real time or as close to it as possible?

I voted this morning, just got back to Queretaro. GO KERRY!!!

im a bush supporter. and u cant say there is no way bush wins the election, he was leading the polls. i realize this is a superficial way of telling who is gonna win but anyway bush was. and in the 2000 election, it wasnt because not all democratic votes were counted, akthoug maybe a little bit in part to confusing ballots, but that is not cheating on the republicans part, its just bad luck.

in the 'indirect democracy' of the united states, with the electoral college and all, it is more than possible to lose the popular vote and still win the presidency. this is because the winner of a state, no matter by what margin, takes it all.

for instance, lets say in massachussetts, kerry wins (as he will) by a majority of 1 million votes, he takes their 12 electoral college votes. but, bush wins texas by 500 votes, he takes their 34 electoral college votes. although bush may not have gotten as many popular votes, he will have won more votes that count. this is what happened in florida.

another quirk in our system, although much much rarer than what i just said, is the faithless voter. when you vote for kerry(for instance) you are actually voting for the dmeocratic electors. if kerry takes massachusetts, the democrats send 12 of their voters. if bush wins, the republicans choose their own 12. when they get to the ellectoral college, no matter what has happened in the election, they are free to vote however they choose. if an elector feels the wrong decision was made, or for any number of reasons, he can go ahead and vote the other way.

in self interest, i want bush to win. but, well see what happens. if you beleive in that redskins thing, kerry should be the next pres. lets hope not. i mean, if the sox can break a streak this year, who says the election cant?

no, hes gonna show them the wrong decision they made.

and matra, that is funny, but not really relevant or the same as what he is doing. he is not analyzing why he isnt analytical, he is just analyzing

It's good you explained more or less how the electoral college system works for those that have no idea what it is But I just don't like it. We don't choose our Mayors, Senators and Congressmen this way, why our President? Can't we just count who got more votes and leave it at that? Isn't that how democracy is supposed to work? Just my .02

At least Kerry has California which is the one that delivers the biggest amount of points. He also has New York with lots of points, but Bush has like 75% of the states I would say, including Texas which is a big one.

Florida which accounts for many points is a state that is considered "too close to call".... I guess it will be the state that decides who wins.... again.
